Hello all, I am a new pool owner. So new, that it hasn't been completely installed yet. It's a 27' round 52" height "Serena". I actually go pick it up today or tomorrow and then the landscaper/assembler will let me know when he will come. The weather has been nuts here in SW Virginia. Yesterday we had temps going up and down all day between 40 and 50 degrees plus a really chilly wind. Sunshine would come and go and come. Rain. Sleet. Snow. Rain and snow. No thunder and lightning though.

My wife and I mainly got this for the grandkids. Although, I look forward too it also. We thought at first we would do a salt water system, but then read of problems with it. So then we thought Baquacil system, and we read of problems with it. So, we decided chlorine and try it first sticking with the old standby. We shall see. I know I will be the primary caretaker/laborer, so I hope it's not too much for an old man. I have been studying up with the lessons on the website and getting more educated all the time. The only trouble is my pitiful memory. Thankfully I know where to come back and look.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed or will contribute. I hope I can contribute something worthwhile too sometimes.

Pool Care Basics

If you want to reduce your workload on pool care then going with a saltwater system would be the best solution. You would not need to carry jugs of liquid chlorine (LC) nor 50 lb buckets of chlorine pucks. Pucks add more unneeded chemicals which may cause the need for draining the pool on occasion. What is your concern of saltwater system?
A saltwater chlorine generator (SWCG) is just what it says - it makes chlorine for you. Adding muractic acid (MA) is a minor task when using SWCG.

Hey Bam and Welcome !!!!!

SWG is the way to go. We have oodles and oodles of members using them and for 99.9% of them, you'd have to pry them from their cold dead hands.

Let that be your guide. Go to any of our members and try and take their SWG away. Then come back and tell me how it went for you. Protip : Be prepared to fight dirty. They will if they need to. :ROFLMAO:

But not your friends and neighbors. They almost certainly are mismanaging theirs, hence the 'problems' with it. Nobody gets a fair education on the system or their chemistry so it's really not their fault, or the system. But when it's used property. HOLY COW it's the bees knees.

Thank you every one for your replies and suggestions. SWG was or original plan. However, we came upon some horror stories of it corroding the pool frames, etc., and the additional costs. So, we are working with chlorine and dealing with the additional problems of new pool owners. Thank you everyone! I apologize for the severe delay! THANKS AGAIN!
