Hello all,
We bought a house with a pool. The pool is very green. You can see the first step and that’s it. I took water to the pool store and they gave me a list of chemicals to put in. I did as requested. I returned to the pool store and received another list. I did as requested again. Still very green and I’ve lost hope on the pool store people.

The pool is a 35,000 gal
chlorine
Jandy CL460 filter

Due to tree cover, the pool receives only two hours of direct sunlight a day.

I bought the test form the intro post and did all the tests. I don’t know if they’re all relevant to helping or not, but here are results:

FC 0.5
CC 0.5
TC 1
Cl Br 0.5-1
pH 8.2 (but seemingly above)
CYA 20
Calcium Hardness 550
Alkalinity 90

I have a Dolphin working around the clock and have been cleaning the filters daily. The filters are running 24/7 at the moment. I’ve also been scrubbing daily with a brush. I poured a significant amount of copper-based algeacide, which seemed to have no affect. I know now from reading here that this community does not recommend those.

I just need this pool to not be green. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

How much was a significant amount of copper based algaecide?

I would suggest a significant drain and refill to reduce the copper level you have added.

What type of pool is this? Vinyl, plaster, fiberglass?

Welcome to TFP!!!!

I was in EXACTLY the same situation as you last year. Ask me why I am PoolStored?

Stick around and we can set you right. Might take some time, work and a bunch of liquid chlorine, but pool is less than 5 minutes of work a day now...and kinda boring.

Inspiration for you:

I'm so sorry you got "pool-stored" but you aren't the first or last to have it happen. Depending how much copper algaecide you used, you may have drain so it would make sense if you need to do that before starting a SLAM.
Also, can you fill out your signature with all your known pool details and equipment? This will help people when solving your issues.

Okay so I think I updated the signature. The pool is concrete so does that make it plaster? It definitely doesn’t have a liner or anything like that.

I added two bottles of the clorox algea killer stuff - I’m not sure how to test copper levels.

When Slamming, it says to use bleach or liquid chlorine. Is this referring to literal household bleach? Also, it says not to use dichlor during slamming. Is dichlor “pool shock?”

Thanks for all the help

Metal testing is one of the few things that we count on the pool $tore for.

Bleach is liquid chlorine is liquid shock is sodium hypochlorite. It comes in varying percentages from about 6% to 12.5%. You don't want to use laundry bleach with additives that make it "splashless" or anything like that.

Dichlor is a type of pool shock. There are others, such as calcium hypochlorite. Liquid chlorine can also be referred to as pool shock.
