Mods, can this go in introduce yourself? My bad.

Hello friends,

As per usual on the forum my partner & I have just bought a house with a pool (first time with a pool). I've ordered a tf-pro-100-salt test kit and read pool school so I'm sure I'll know more soon, but:

(1) The pool looks and feels (according to my partner) fabulous!
(2) the SWG is showing not enough salt and inactive chlorination (if I'm reading manual properly 1500ppm is well below minimum)
(3) there are no chemicals or tools whatsoever (brush, scoop thing, vacuum, etc.)

Where do I go from here, aside from getting on with the test kit and hopefully keeping the chemistry under control? I'm marginally handy and remember enough high school chemistry to follow the system, but am also Cheap. What are the appropriate basic tools to keep the pool in its lovely condition? Willing to accept some aesthetic imperfections but really want to avoid damage to pool, systems, etc.

Also, is it ok to partially cover the pool with a solar cover on a semi-permanent basis?

Best to all

Mormo

Welcome to TFP! Yes, definitely a proper test kit. That's always step #1. Then start a new thread in one of the other sub-forums like Testing & Balancing Water, and we'll coach you through the next steps.

I highly recommend one of the kits from tftestkits.net like the TF-100 or Pro-Series kits, They are a great value, but the Taylor K-2006C is also a good kit.
