New pool owner from OK with a unique challenge

Hello everyone, loving all the information I'm finding here, looks like the holy grail of pool chemistry!

Where should I start to find a solution for a decomposed skunk found after removing our pool cover?

We have a 25k in ground plaster and a sand filter.
