New Pool! Not sure what this stuff is!

They just finished our new pool in the last month (Yah!). I am trying to get everything going and ready for opening and need some help identifying some floating material on the surface. It showed up a couple weeks ago and our first thoughts where some type of dust/pollen. Now it is persistent and want to make sure it isn’t something else. I look forward to learning all I can.

Thanks
Chris

That sure looks like pollen.

If you haven't already. stretch a hairnet or a knee-high nylon over your skimmer basket. It will prefilter that stuff out so you don't load up the real filter. I use queen-size nylons. They can be cleaned a couple times before they start to run and need replacing. Skimmer Sock/Nylon Illustrated Others swear by foodservice hairnets. Someone is sure to post a link to the ones they use.

Chris,

Looks like some kind of tree pollen and nothing to worry about.

This time a year I would be running my pump as much as I could to keep the skimmers working.

I would also recommend using hair nets in the skimmers to keep that junk from getting into your filter.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Welcome to the forum!

Be sure the socks are stretched over the TOP of the skimmer basket. Do not out them on the outside of the basket as they can get sucked into the suction line to the pump. And that would be a bad day!
