New pool, Manor, Texas

Adding bleach.............You can add it whenever you want BUT...............I add it after the sun has set for the day.

The reasons are these-that way the bleach can do it's work without the sun taking any of it. Just think....the bleach has at least 10 or so hours of working time if you add it after dark.

Now I did have to "train" myself......as Tim turns the pump off when he gets home so there is no need to go back out to the pool except to enjoy it.

I put a note on my bathroom mirror that says pool. That was to train me to do my testing and dosing of bleach when I start my getting ready for bed routine. Go out to test and add (I am to the point now that I do not test every night shhhhhhhhh I just add about 1/3 of one of my jugs). When I am just about ready to climb into bed I go out to turn my pump off.

If I had a timer it would be even easier as I would not have to go back out. The pump needs to run 30 mins after you add anything.

Adding MA..........it does not matter at all when you add it.

With MA please be VERY careful!! The fumes are rough. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!!!!! PLEASE!! Go slow with your movements and use care. I have a plastic measuring cup that is JUST for adding MA. Make sure to turn your face away when you are opening the MA bottle and doing any pouring. I lower the cup into the water and just let the MA out into the water slowly.

Where to add bleach and MA. Add them at least 30 mins apart from each other! They do NOT play well together. They should also be stored WAY away from each other. Pour the one you are working with into the return stream. You should also brush the area of the pool sides and floor to make sure there is none sitting around.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Kim

Kim, I don't know if I ever thanked you for this plethora of information! But I truly appreciated it! So very helpful. We hate the acid. Our ph keeps rising. We think it's the new plaster. But we have had to add this several times. It's just scary stuff. I did buy a bucket. With it being an inground pool, it is impossible for me to crouch down and reach the water. I'm not that agile. So, my husband is taking care of it. It still scares me and we did get a dribble on the deck once. We flushed it with water. But it still made its mark on the concrete. I just hope our PH stabilizes soon.

Going out of town--------that is when I DO use pucks. If you look at the bottom of Pool Math you will see what each one does to your levels. It is really neat and does all of the work for you.

What I do is fill my floater up (I will be having Tim add an inline on one day as I do not like how the floater sits right by my liner) as much as I can. I open the little holes as much as they will go and call it good. When I get home I take it out and sit the pucks out to dry so I can reuse them when needed.

I then test my water and see what is what.

I am SO glad my post is helpful. I also HATE MA. Nasty stuff. I have even taken to wearing a painters mask to help with the fumes.

Your plaster will stabilize over time. I have NO idea how much time it will take.

Just think where it would be if you did not have TFP and your own test kit! THAT is scary to me.

My fav. time with my pool is after I have been working in the yard. Getting nasty, sweaty, stinking then jump in and utter bless!

Janny, I love your early morning picture with the moon. I can almost 'hear' the quiet. There's nothing like it for relaxing and preparing for the day - or ending the day!

I love your deck furniture!!! It's my cup of tea. The lines of the black metal on the chairs is lovely. The curved sofa is perfect, and maybe a space saver. I've going to try to remember that if I ever get an outdoor sofa. For now, I've run out of room. And the cushion colors look terrific - beautiful and great for those grandkids (and big kids too!).

That is such a perfect area to sit in the shade and enjoy the view of your pool. I know exactly what you mean about spending more time outside. I don't think I've ever spent so much time outside, and I'm loving it. When I was younger, I mostly worked or gardened outside. But I couldn't wait to get into the cool a/c. The last 10 or so years, I've barely stepped out back because of the heat. Now, I'm enjoying piddling around the yard and deck and garage (still trying to organize and arrange things the way I want them). As soon as I start to get warm, splash I go into the pool! Silly, but it still surprises me how quickly it refreshes me. So I either stay and play or get out and continue what I was doing. Being outside more is becoming such a blessing.

Again..... love, love, love your furniture. I can't stop looking at it!!
Suz.

Janny you are doing a great job! I hope you can retire soon so you can stay home with the pool!

ANY thing you are not sure of or just wonder let us know. One of us can/will answer it or point you in the right direction.

Had some of the grandkids over this weekend. They loved the pool. They spent the entire day in it almost! Then we cooked out and later roasted marshmallows in our fire pit. I love our new outdoor area! It's like adding an entire room to the house.
We did have some fun with the door alarm for the pool. Lol! It seems everyone forgot to hit the bypass each time they entered or exited. It was super annoying but funny too. What type alarm do you use on your doors for kiddos?

Thanks, Helen! It really has been a dream as far as taking care of it goes. Our water has stayed sparklingly clear! We had to use pucks when we were away for a few days, but other than raising the chlorine level a little more than we like, everything was great. We have a UV sanitizer so we don't really need a lot of chlorine. My only concern has been adding MA. It's nasty stuff. I forgot all my safety rules and hovered over the bucket after pouring it in. I ended up with a big whiff of it going into my throat. It bothered me for a few days. We also have been concerned about storing it. We have ordered a little cabinet to place on the back patio or maybe on the side of the yard. It locks, is small and is plastic and vented. I am hoping that solves the problem.

Janny look at all of those smiles! What a great time and place to have everyone over. I bet they all slept real good that night!

Door alarm--------can you turn it off when you are using the pool? I don't know how they work.

MA-HUGS! That stuff can cause problems for sure! Sorry you got such a lung full......... Having an above ground pool makes it easier for me! I like the idea you have for the storage in the locking cabinet. I bet that will help for sure. Now to find a way for you to use it without getting hurt. I wonder if you had a chair right by the area you put the MA in the bucket if it would help you sit down so you are not over the bucket.

HUGS!

Good ideas, Kim. We had the four year old here for the weekend. The alarm was safety for him. But yes it was annoying. It kind of got funny. We just all kept forgetting to push the override button. But peaceful now with no kiddos in the house. It is a layer of comfort knowing it is there with little ones around. But it didn't keep him from going out the front door alone in search for his mom. Lol!
But we heard him and all was well.
Yes, the kids had a great time. They did indeed sleep well.
I'll get the muriatic acid. figured out eventually. I thought I was being bright and set my bucket in the six inches of water on my sun shelf to avoid any drips on the deck when I poured. Then I had to look down into that bucket to pour it. Silly girl I am. Just not always on top of my game these days. (Guess I can blame it on getting old!")
I'll let you know how the cabinet works out.

I was gonna say, the living room might not be the best choice. Then I scrolled down!!

LOVE it! That is the purrfect size and the lock! Oh yea! You know what??? I think I would make a note/sign to tape on it to ID what is inside just in case...............I don't know why anyone would need to know but my gut says label it.............LOL

Where did you get that? I am going to get one for mine. I have a spot outside I could put it in and not worry anymore about where I have it.

Kim

Thank you so much!

The funny thing is all your talk about the MA has brought back memories of my chemistry teacher in high school. He wasn't very well liked but I remember he had some hilarious sayings. When we didn't want to take a test or something he would always say "People in H.e.l.l. want ice water". He also one time was walking on the counter in his classroom to remove a periodic table on the wall when we took a test. There was a bunch of chemicals on the table and he almost knocked over a HCL acid bottle one time and said "oops almost made an acid of myself". Whenever I see people on here talking about acid it always reminds me of him. Funny how that works...
