New pool, Manor, Texas

This is very helpful. Thank you so much Kim. My husband added the acid. I had planned to add the bleach in the evening, but since he added the MA, I decided to wait. But the evening will definitely be my routine going forward.

More trouble with our Racer... He was spewing water like a mini geyser this morning. Water was spewing from one side to the other when I went outside to put in my chlorine. It was quite a scene! I finally figured out what happened. For a minute there I thought my pool was throwing its own party!
Needless to say, we have called service again.

But the water is crystal clear- even with leaving the pump off all day since we weren't sure how to get the air out. [emoji30]

Get air out of what?

Bad Racer, BAD! You have a wonderful home with Janny! Why do you want to keep acting up??? She is going to put you back in your box and let your brother come live at her house if you do not behave!

Yes, Racer is our pet. We have named him several times according to our moods. I called him "little geyser" the other day after the "incident" [emoji14][emoji12]
Service came out today. He decided to slow our high pump speed down. So now he should be fixed. I've been working very hard at work. We haven't gotten to spend much time with our pool. Plus it's been cool. I get shivers if the temp is below 85. (Water). So, it's just been interesting learning the chemicals. It's pretty easy. But I need a large bucket to mix my muriatic acid with. This guy says to lower PH I have to broadcast the muriatic acid.
Learning...

I feel for you regarding the back-to-school workload. It still makes me shudder to think about it. I'm amazed good people still work for our education system.

If you're managing to work AND maintain the pool during these early weeks, you're doing great! I've only added the muriatic acid a couple of times. I used a bucket with pool water then added the liquid MA and mixed - then carefully poured it into the pool.

This service guy who came out today said if you pour it in from the bottle in a column it lowers the alkalinity. But if you mix with water and basically throw it out onto the pool (broadcast it), it lowers PH. I asked him why. He said that's just how it works. [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]
I have seen similar explanations on YouTube . I'm just trying to lower my PH. I guess turning the bubbler off will help too.

We had our first rain since we opened the pool. I was working away (the only soul in the building). I have no window. But I could hear the rain. I wondered if my pool would run over or turn green. I wondered about how the rain would affect my PH. I wondered if it would turn cloudy. I texted my husband, who also was at work, about my concerns. It's like having a newborn. I worry about every little thing!
But after work and after the hairdresser, I finally made it home. And of course the first thing I did was go outside and gaze at my "baby." It was beautiful, clear and clean. What a relief.

Janny if it rains enough to cause an overflow where will your water from the pool go?

It might be a good idea to see if the PB or a plumber will add an overflow IF the pool overflowing will cause problems.

An overflow might not cause a problem with your yard set up and that may why you do not have an overflow.

Honestly some of the pool quotes we got didn't specify that. I think pool builders don't put it in by default unless you have a fill line then it is required by our city code. I think on my pool it probably wouldn't be an issue since the entire pool is above grade but you don't want dirt from your deck back washing back into your pool.

For my pool it was as simple as hooking a pvc to the back of my skimmer (they haven't done it yet) and having that go out to air somewhere.

Going out of town: should we just use the pucks? We have the automated pent air chlorinator. I'm thinking to set it in about 3 and fill the pool up and enjoy. Then I guess we will test the water when we get back and adjust. I know it will help lower my ph. I just don't know how much CYA it will add. Has anyone here experienced this yet? Any suggestions?
By the way, we still have beautiful pool water. My husband has learned to test. We finally got our deck furniture put together. And I am using my backyard as I have never used it before. It's very nice. We swim and exercise daily and it's great. I'm still keeping up with all the new builds and find it very exciting. I enjoyed this view yesterday morning. It was nice.

I love my coffee by the pool and morning swims on the weekend. [emoji3]
