Hey there,
Made the jump this year and had a new concrete/plaster pool installed this year. Just about to hit final stages of startup with the company now that we're 4 weeks post fill. Heater will be tested and the pool will be transitioned from using chlorine pucks to salt for the next months and then close. I can say I'm super glad I found TFP, the app, and these forums as this all gets started. I grew up with a pool in the 80s and 90s and remember doing all the testing, so it never occurred to me to not do it myself (our pool was always crystal clear as a kid). I was definitely shocked when I was asked by the company, "do you want me to walk you through the chemistry?" Apparently, most people pay the $125 per week to have their pools maintained around here. Absolutely nuts.
They gave me one of the big Taylor test kits, but it doesn't have the salt test and I hate swirling the chems by hand, so I ordered the TFP Pro with salt kit. I figured having more reagents isn't a bad thing anyway since I'm doing daily testing right now to make sure things are looking good. Right now, we're chlorinating with pucks and the pool company is technically still in charge of the chems until we transition to salt this week. FC is 3 and CYA is a ~32, so I'm on the bottom end of the range. However, the water looks good, and I'll see how things change with the switch salt.
Looking forward to keeping this crystal clear with the help of the group here!
