Hi guys,

I built a pool in 2016 in the backyard of our previous home, now we're moving to Dallas so I'm getting a chance of correcting my mistakes from the first build ;-) I'm excited. Here's what I learned from the previous pool:

- don't let the pool builder let you talk into an ozone and UV system when you say you want an SWG.
- waterfalls are beautiful to look at, but they make a lot of noise. Especially when you have 3.
- get on the TFP forum and ask for help!

This is the first quote I've received for this project, let me know your thoughts please.

- The ozone system is in the quote, I'm gonna have the builder take that out.
- Our previous spa was 7 x 7, this one is 5 x 7.. I'm thinking this is going to be too small.
- Thoughts about that SWG?

I am afraid you are going to get a LOT of push back against the SWG in TX. But, personally I would find a builder that will build what you want WITH the SWG.

If you avoid the common soft stones that the builders in TX seem to want to use, then the SWG should not be a concern.

I would also go with an electric robot and not an out-of-date pressure side cleaner.
 
Thank you, Jason. I must say that the builders I spoke with didn't push back that much against the SWG. I told them that I had a chlorinated pool before and that I want a SWG now.

We're thinking about a Salt Washed concrete deck and pre cast concrete coping, not a natural stone deck. So shouldn't be an issue there?

What are your thoughts on the "Nature II soft 12,000 gallons"?
Can anyone explain to me what the "Sanitizer Nature II fusion Cartridge 25,000 gallons" is?
 
Well, remember that a SWG pool IS a chlorine pool ;)

Nature II is garbage ... NEVER add metals into your water ... search the forum :mrgreen:
It is an ionizer that adds silver and copper to your water.

Jason is thinking of the pool builders South of us... In the DFW area Salt Systems seem to be plentiful... Just like you, my builder had zero issues with it.

I would not recommend anything with the words "fusion" and "cartridge" in it. They have a mineral cartridge that we do not recommend. It is possible to leave the cartridge out, but why not just get one of Jandy's standard SWCG's??

The key to having a great salt system is to make sure the cell is rated for at least 2 x the volume of your pool... So if you have a 20K pool you need a 40K cell. This is because cells are rated when running 24/7 at 100% output. The bigger the cell the longer it will last and the less you have to run your pump... Speaking of pumps, I am be wrong but it appears you are getting a single speed pump... That is not a good plan in my mind, especially if you have a SWCG.

Just for reference I have a 3 HP Variable Speed pump on my little pool.. I have a SWCG and run the pump 24/7, at 1200 RPM.. This cost me less than $20 buck per month... A single speed would cost you that in a day..

I know nothing about SWG's, so thanks for your advise on that.

Im just north of dallas. My builser acutally recommended a swg. I wanted one anyways. My pool is 12k we have an ic40 going in and are using travertine as the decking. Not planning on sealing it. This build will be my frist but 3rd pool to own 2 out of the 3 have/will be pentair products. I love me some pentair
 
Shrid, the ones I contacted were not recommending it, but also weren’t trying to convince me of not getting a swg.

Would you you mind letting me know what builder you used? Would you recommend him?

I’ve contacted over 7. 4 replied. 1 didn’t show up at the meeting. I met with another one but he’s not replying to my emails and 2 others gave me a quote. Seems like business is going too well ;-)

So, I've decided which PB is going to build my pool! Yay, I'm very excited.

Question: the pool surface is 476. The contract includes 2 skimmers, but after reviewing all details, the PB says we can't put the skimmers across from each other because of easements North and East of the pool. The red circles indicate where the two skimmers will be put. Are they too close to each other? Should I just go with one skimmer? :confused:

Having 2 that close together would be kind of pointless IMO.

Where are the easements? I can't reconcile the North & East with the pictures

Ideally you want the skimmer on the downwind side of the pool .... so I hope that is where your red circles are.
 
Using the photo with the red circles, easement in the top is 6ft from the fence and the pool is right on that limit.

The easement on the left is 5 ft and the pool is about 1,5ft from that easement. Now, if you look carefully, you can see there is a wall that is needed because the yard is on a slope.

So that would make it impossible to put a slimmer there I guess?

One reason I can think of to have 2 skimmers that close to each other - referring to those red circles -would be if there ever is an issue with one of the skimmers. You’d have a spare one.

But not sure if it would be worth the cost.

If you can't put a skimmer on the other end then push the pool in a foot so you can. Keep in mind that you will be spinding more time out of the pool than in it.
 
The problem is that there is a slope in our backyard. The wall on the left is a raised retaining wall because of that slope. Can't put the skimmer there either although there is about 1,5 ft left of that easement.

We can't push the pool in either, because it already is fairly small. 10ft from top of the screenshot down to where the spa begins. A 9 ft wide pool would be too small imo?

Any other ideas?

What about on the 6ft easement side. Can it be placed somewhere on that side?

How high is the lowest level of the raised wall? If it's 12" or less, I don't see why a skimmer couldn't be there. You would just use or make an extension for the upright riser. You would have to reach down in to retrieve the basket or just attach a handle to it.
