new pool, crack in shotcrete

hello everyone,

in process of building a new pool in southern California as part of a complete backyard project. new to this whole construction thing, but after the shotcrete was shot, I noticed a large crack develop in the deeper end of the pool 1st day after it was shot.

builder assures me it's alright but it seems rather large and somewhat deep. it measures about 5 ft long and is about 1/4 inch wide at it's largest width. they advise they would like to fix this with epoxy most likely. is this appropriate? it seems like there could be a structural compromise in the shotcrete with this large a crack? opinions would be appreciated, thanks.

That looks more like a slough than a crack. That is not a structural issue.

Either way, epoxy injection is a very good option and one that you should allow if given the opportunity. It's one of those things that looks far worse than what it is.

it does look sort of like about an inch of concrete could slough off over time if given the chance. not sure how deep it goes. i am still waiting on the final say with the builder as to how they would fix it. thanks so much for your input bdavis. any other opinions?

dethman, I would like to give you some background info. The above person (Brian) is who we would turn to for the answer to this question/concern. He is a master pool builder and knows his stuff. He is kind enough to share his time and knowledge with us here at TFP.

If Brian says x then x it is in my eyes.
