New pool!! But no heat, no use...

We recently got a pool installed and can't wait to get in it. I realize there are lots of opinions on this but will this work? somewhat work? works well?

Can I use a large black plastic sheet that covers about 80% of the surface water to heat the pool? Will this really work?
AND, what if it were to be combined with the pool heater being on too?

I could try it but I know I'll second guess myself on whether or not it works.
Or said differently...if it's a matter of a 3º temp change from all day in the sun under the sheeting, it might have done that without the bag!

Any impervious covering will prevent evaporation and make a significant difference vs evaporation (self cooling).

How would you keep the plastic sheet from sinking?

Be careful with any cover, DIY or factory-made. If anyone or any animal gets in with it, they can get trapped below the cover or get entangled and drown.
