New Pool Build - Conroe, TX - LOTS of pics! Come say hi Y'all.

On a side note, I really think the "under construction" board is the ONLY board I will ever post on again. There is love here! The other boards, not so much. You guys made this entire pool building experience a blast, thank you for making me feel so included and welcomed!

A few updates:

I will totally start using Kim's "bar system" for the cya! Love it!

I'm going to order the "sanity test" to see if I'm reading the cya right I see they have free shipping right now. Might as well order more refills- I'm going through everything fast practicing every day.

The only cya that was added was by pucks but I'm not sure how many. :( I can't imagine my cya being this high already- hoping it's just me reading it wrong.

I use the FAS-DPD test but I call it CLDT (chlorine drop test) sorry for the confusion. I know my CL is low & am raising it now & will sneak to Walmart and buy bleach this weekend.

Thanks again for all the help and support! I've been a little out of it lately with my neck. I don't have enough improvement with the acupuncture so we are scheduling a cervical epidural (the kind where they go into the middle of my back & run a cath up my spine to the neck.) Right now they have me on a lot of meds trying to relax the muscles & get the nerves to calm down. The meds make me woozy to say the least. It's been a trying couple of weeks.

Wendy,
I spend as much time on the water testing board as I do here.
Same with a lot of the others.
It will take a while for the whole crew of recently/imminently complete pools to get over there, but they will get there.
The Construction board becomes more entertainment than information once your pool is running.
Also the Coffee Bar is a nice spot to let us know what you did today (pool or otherwise) even when it is not a 4 alarm emergency.
I just picked up a Stenner pump over there last week. 1st step in reducing effort in maintaining the lake in front of Erebor. (obscure Hobbit reference)

Thanks OZ. I have a feeling the shock of all the chemistry talk will wear off soon :)

In case anyone is following along:
I retested this morning:
CL 11
CC .05
PH still a little lighter than 7.2 but I think closer to normal than yesterday (I did nothing to it yesterday)
TA still at 50

I was hoping that yesterday was just a fluke - but I guess not. I am going to try to bump up my PH a little . . . this part isn't nearly as fun or exciting as I was hoping!

I wanted to share a picture I took - I absolutely love it. All the pictures so far have been with my iphone - but I pulled out my Nikon yesterday and started playing around with it. This was my favorite shot - it wasn't until I was going to crop it that I realized I had been photo-bombed!

Bella Photo Bomb.jpg

RIGHT! I didn't even think about that! She really was trying to get in all my pics. I noticed her while I was taking all the other photos - but this one she was being stealthy!

Great photo! I guess at some time I'll have to get my big camera out and take pictures when the pool is done. Did your PB do glamour shots of your pool?

He hasn't. I was kinda hoping he would - but they do really BIG pools and lazy rivers - even though I think mine is AMAZING - the ones on their site are like WAY fancier than mine. Maybe he will once I get some of the landscaping done. They are still super busy - he was here the other day and said this has been one of their busiest summers.

YES - you seriously need to get out the good camera! It makes a huge difference! I am going to take some night shots soon . . . they don't come out on my iphone at all.

So I finally ordered my glass for the fire pit. I went with all reflective black, gunmetal & the large black diamond nuggets. Hopefully it looks ok without all the fun colors. Propane causes a sooty build up - I don't want to clean too often.

Thank you guys! I am super excited about the Fire Pit!

OK - I am posting this here first in hopes of getting some feedback and not having to post in the chem threads. I am switching over to bleach. :whoot: Please hold your applause.

There are some pucks still in the chlorinator - so I just turned it to 0 - so no water is running through it.

My numbers
PH 7.4
CL 6
CC 0
TA 60
CH 300
CYA 70 (I READ it as 70 but the consensus on the board - it is probably not that high - READER error, but I am treating it as 70)

So I need to raise my CL up to 8 According to Pool Math - I need to add 43 OZ of Bleach (using 8.25 strength).

From what I have read - it is best to pour slowly in front of a return. I use bleach all the time in my house - so I have a glass measuring cup that I can use.

Is there ANYTHING that you guys can see that I am doing wrong or should take into account that I am not???????

Wendy, I can't help you with your test numbers - it would be like the blind leading the blind! Lol!

But I bought this plastic measuring cup on Amazon to measure my bleach and MA right by the pool. I didn't want to be using glass by the pool since I'm such a klutz. I looked at all sorts of stores around here and couldn't find one that gave decent markings for ounces. It seemed a little high, but considering how often I use it - almost every day so far - it's been well worth it. It seems very sturdy and I like how clear and easy it is to read the line marks.

Amazon.com: Rubbermaid Commercial FG321700CLR Bouncer Measuring Cup, 2-quart: Industrial Scientific

Good luck with going chlorine. Just when I got used to that and felt fairly comfortable, I've now had my switch over to the SWG system. I feel like I'm starting all over, almost.

You'll do great. You already know the testing and how to use Pool Math. That's a big deal!!!
Take care,
Suz.

Suz! I LOVE all your gadgets! I am a gadget girl too! Getting this today!

Do I need 2? I can't remember - but I think it mentioned using separate measuring cups for MA and CL? So far - my MA additions have been 1/2 the bottle here and there - my PB said no need to measure. Once it stabilized - I haven't had to add anything for 2 months now.

Hi Sunbaby,
your test results look good. No problems with them at all.

Just a mention which Im sure you know, your CYA of 70 is actually a tad higher than recommended but you seem to be managing the FC properly for it, and you seem to understand how to manage CYA from going higher. Thats great!

You are correct in that you should pour the bleach slowly in front of a return. Let it mix for 30 mins then test again to see if you reached your target.

Nice job on the chemistry.

Thank you guys! I am super excited about the Fire Pit!
