New pool - Am I doing okay? Pump running too much? SWG not keeping cL high enough?

Feels like that would be a lot of stress on the pump, running it that many hours particularly when it's not "necessary." Obviously more experienced folks do it, so I'm sure it's fine, but the wear and tear and reducing lifespan of the pump were my concerns there.
Pumps are built to run continuously. The starting and stopping of the pump adds more wear and tear than running the pump continuously.

Ninja'd me! Yep, it's the start-stop that adds more wear over time.

My pump runs 24/7 minus a few minutes at night because you can't set a true 24 hour period with AquaLink. For reasons.

Q,

I too run my pump 24/7, at about 1200 RPM most of the time.. I have three pools that all have 3 HP IntelliFlo pumps.. They all have been running 24/7 for well over 10 years... They operate today just like they did when the were installed..

I personally believe, without any actual proof, that running 24/7 is better for the pump, then starting and stopping it every day.. Everyone here will know the day any of them bite the dust..

They were about $1,000 pumps when I installed them, they are now close to $2k.. But even at today's pricing, that is only $200 bucks a year... I like to make a little chlorine all the time, and I like to skim all the time. I also like the look of my pool when there is a little motion to the water. The cost for me to run 24/7 is less than $20 bucks a month.. Running 24/7 is not a requirement, it is just something that a lot of us like to do... It works well for me, and I see zero downside in doing it..

You need to run your pump so that it works best for you.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Appreciate everyone's comments today. Very helpful.

I have AquaLink so, as dfwnoob mentioned, the most I can run the pump is 24 hours minus a few minutes. No matter what I'll have to start and stop at least once a day.
Can you not set overlapping schedules to allow running 24/7?
Set #1 from 1205 am to 1155 pm at "xx" rpm.
Set #2 from 1150 pm to 1210 am at "xx" plus 100 rpm.
Or similar with an overlap.

I'm interested in this also, does this work? I'm in the same boat as the author where mine runs at 2700 for 12 hours and thinking I can dial it back and run for 24 hours at a much lower RPM(enough to keep the SWG active)
