Hello! This is my first time posting. We are building our first pool, we selected a sports pool 16x32 double Roman. Now I’m second guessing myself about the style of the pool with the slopes. It is 3.5 to 5 to 3.5. We wanted this style to have two shallow ends and to play sports. After looking at the slopes, I’m a little concerned that the slopes may be to steep. I am wondering if we should ask to adjust the middle but I don’t know if that is even possible. Just curious from others that have a sport pool.

Welcome to TFP.

When you have spoken to the Pool Builders about wanting a pool 3.5 to 5 to 3.5 have you specifically said water depth? When builders talk about depths they often talk about depth from bond beam to bottom of the pool and not from the middle of the skimmer water depth. That can be a 6" difference.

This prior thread discussed the same question...

See section 5.6 in http://divingboardsafety.net/Standard-inground-pools.pdf for the ANSI Standards on pool floor slopes.

Is this a vinyl liner pool? When you are going from a 3.5 depth to a 5’ depth it shouldn’t be too steep imo. The slope (transition from shallow to deep) can only be so steep in order to stay up to code. Regardless, if you can get a look at the pool specs and still felt that it was too steep you could always have the builder extend the slope further into the deep end to lessen the steepness. You would essentially be giving up some length on the deep end floor but it would lessen the slope. I think you should be fine though.

Thanks! I didn't think about that the water depth vs the pool depth. I will go back and double check.

Yes, this is a vinyl liner pool. Thanks! I may ask if he can extend the slopes just little.
