New plaster fill up (iron)

So the pool build is done and we are filling. Just noticed a brownish color on the bottom that I suspect is iron from the well water. Need some help on what to do to ensure it doesn't stain the new plaster while filling. Thanks so much.

Well water huh? Rats. Do some searching on this site for filtering iron and you'll see other threads about running fill water through 5-gal buckets with absorbent materials to try and capture as much iron as possible. Once filled, also consider paper towels in the skimmer if possible for a short time. Keep the pH on the low end of about 7.4, and try not to let FC exceed the normal range based on your CYA as noted on the Chlorine/CYA Chart. Lastly, have a good sequestrant ready. We have some great metals experts who will probably give you more advice as well. Congrats on the new pool!

Go buy some polyester pillow stuffing or quilt batting and stuff it in a bucket and set the filler hose inside. It will filter out a bunch of Iron before the water overflows into the pool. There was a great post a couple years ago where a guy built a homemade iron filter using a fountain pump and empty jugs stuffed with batting, but he deleted the pictures. :(
