Hey Folks - THanks for all of your help so far. I'm excited to receive the test kits tomorrow.

I have a question about water clarity. Is it common for the water to appear very clear from the surface? However, when swimming in it, I can barely see the bottom as it's cloudy, but if I have goggles on, the clarity is there. Is it my eyes or something else?

I can’t see much with goggles on but with a full face mask I can see everything. It’s weird.

Your eyes are evolved for seeing in the refractive index of air. Water has a much different refractive index. Putting on a mask with an air gap rebends the light back to what you need, although with some distortions - like things appearing to be bigger, among others. Fish likely have the same issue, but reversed, when taken out of the water.
