Hi all! We bought our home this January, and the pool had already been closed up. Now we are looking to open it up and we had tried to contact a company to do it for us - they never called us back. Since then, others have told us that it's not that difficult to learn what you need to do, so here I am (a friend referred me to this site). Looking forward to having a pool up and running for my family this summer, and to not ruining it by doing something stupid...

Welcome to the forum!
Start a thread in Just Getting Started. Fill out your signature and maybe take a picture or two of your equipment pad and pool.
What test kit do you have?

I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Pool School eBook.

I'd suggest you stay *out* of the pool stores! All they tend to do is offer you a "free" water test that costs you hundreds in chemicals to add.
Of which *many* we outright wouldn't want in our pools if they were free!

Start reading the pool school articles and ask lots of questions on the appropriate forums. We've all been newbies and we're more than happy to help you.
