New Member, First Build...What have we gotten into?

I binge-read your build over the past few days. Thank you for keeping up such detailed posts! Quite a saga. Seems like it has a happy ending so far as your pool and outdoor space look INCREDIBLE. I must admit your struggles with your PB gave me some reassurance that perhaps we're not crazy for doing an owner build. Seems like any way you approach it a pool build is A LOT of work for the homeowners. You guys did a great job staying on top of your PB and crew. Would love to see/ hear if there has been any progress/ if you've arrived at the finished product.

Hello all! I was going to wait to post until the project was completely finished and today was supposed to be the day they came out to fix / finish a few last things (and they didn't make it due to the rain) 1) that corner they chipped with the bob cat 2) turning the water on to the Outdoor Kitchen 3) fixing one of the steps they saw cut instead of hand chipped like every other piece of flagstone and 4) showing how the electricity is supposedly turned on in the kitchen when we can't get anything to work.

It has now been 12 months since the contract was signed - but really - as others on this forum have said - once you get to start using your pool, the pain and suffering begin melting away. We had a flurry of work completed over the last month because the project manager was seeking a payment. When they realized we don't owe a payment until the project is finished and final punch list complete - it was amazing how much work got done in 2 weeks. Truly, Truly Amazing.

But meanwhile, we have been enjoying the hot tub, watching the horses hang their heads over the fence trying to decide if they want to participate and the dogs have their backyard back. In fact, they enjoy standing on the tanning shelf and hanging out around the hot tub with us.

Oh and Kim, I LOVE the color of the countertops. Here is a photo of one of the dobies enjoying the hot tub with the countertop behind him.

Hopefully, we'll get some sun tomorrow and we can take a final photo. Planning to do some shopping for a patio umbrella and a fireplace grate. -Karen

The countertop looks so nice! Picture of the whole top please! We just got in our pool..... I guess that I got a bit of crazy and heated the whole pool to 81 degree so the kids and I can get in this weekend... I may regret heating the whole pool when I get the gas bill.... However, kids are on Spring break and we did jot go anywhere this time... So I guess it is OK. So, back to your point, yes, all the suffering and waiting seems to all melted away when you are able to use the pool and have fun with your loved ones in the pool.... We just finally past the final inspection after 9 months in construction, and finally got a Pentair technician to come out after 3 months of post construction struggle with the PB to set our equipments properly. So cheers to you and Bob for finally finished and enjoying your pool and spa! I love your dog too! You and Bob should come to Plano, actually The Colony to check out The brand new opened Nebraska Furniture Mart. It is huge and have many selections for furniture, outdoor decor, and of course umbrellas!

Funny how the want/need for money gets them to do work!

I would have LOVED to be there when they figured out you did NOT owe any money until it was DONE! Who got to drop that fact on them? LOL

Love the doggie picture! Just chilling with my mom!

I can't wait to see the pictures of everything DONE!

Oh wait no power where they say there is power? Hummmmmmm wonder what switch they forgot or what line got cut?????

I think if we did it again - we would go the owner build route.... I think...

I think it's a great idea to use the heater and enjoy Spring Break. It's starting to warm up a little for us in TX. A few weeks ago, I actually jumped in the pool a couple of times without it being heated (65 degrees) to try and get the dogs to get in (they were smarter than I was) but quickly got into the hot tub. I wanted to make sure they knew how to find the steps and ways to get out. The pool was designed to be super dog friendly, with steps everywhere but of course, one of the dogs accidentally fell in a couple of weeks ago and kept trying to get out where there are no steps.

Nebraska Furniture Mart sounds like an excellent idea!

Hubba, hubba! That is NICE!

Poor doggy falling in the pool. How did you get him out?

We have a ramp in our above ground for the cats. I KNOW one has used it LOL He still drinks out of the pool silly kitty

Have you had dinner out there yet?

Kim

Looks pretty good to me!
I'd have to flip a coin to decide if I would make them wait and suffer over final payment or just cut them a check to get them outta my life. After you are fully satisfied with the finish product of course.
Cheers.
