New Liner Before Year End Closing

Hello.

I just had a new liner put in my 24' foot above ground pool after many years of leaks. In any event, my question is if I need to refill the pool all the way and add chemicals etc and then go thorugh a normal year end closing.....or is there anyway to short-cut so I don't need to fill my pool all the way only to have to drain in hours later.

Thanks in advance.

Depends if you have any penetrations above the level you would drain to that you want to see if they leak.

What is the pH, TA, and CH of your fill water?

If you have good fill water you probably just need to put some chlorine in and maybe Polyquat60.

Thanks. I am not concerned with any leaking as its a brand new liner, but had not thought of the possiblity.

Anyway, I have not tested water yet. I do have one of those year end kits, but I was questioning if I needed to go through that process since I just filled from my hose.

I don't know what those year end kits are.

Unless you can tell me exactly what each chemical in your winter kit is, what they will do, why you needed them and why you need an arbitrary dose without testing first, return the kit to the store.

If you don't want to fill high enough to run the pump to mix the water, you can fill to closing water height and use a submersible pump to mix it.

CH doesn't matter for vinyl. Your TA and Ph are likely pool friendly from the tap in MA. You'll want CYA to buffer the FC so it doesn't bleach your brand new liner. It shouldn't be much to balance it and close it proper.

I decided to just fill it all the way and test water to make sure everything is working. But are you saying that a closing kit is not necessary - as long as my water is balanced I am good? I have no clue what is in the kit to be honest. Have not opened it yet.

Thanks

Are you saying it is ? Tell me why it is. Or even what it is. I bet you find copper and sulfates, if they even list what's in it. :)

Your water is either balanced or not. The mystery box of random chemicals is not going to correct an imbalance.

I used one of those kits last year. It did NOT say what was in it. Was very vague. I didn’t know any different and just followed the instructions and dumped it all in. It turned out fine and I opened to a nice clear pool, despite a couple sticks/branches breaking through my pool cover during a storm and leaving debris in there.

Not using kit this year though. Gonna stick with the TFP method and just bring it up to slam level.

I saw one, and i forget where now but want to say BigLots, and it had nothing on the box but 'winterizing kit' and whether it was for 10k/20k/30k gallons.

I imagine inside the box the stuff was labeled 'step 1 / 2 / 3'. :ROFLMAO:

If anyone feels the need to throw out $50, please send it to me. You'll scratch that itch while not adding copper, sulfates and/or ammonia to your pool. I am a good friend like that. I accept cash, check, credit and Venmo.

Sounds about right. It was from Ocean State Job Lot. Great place for shock, but also stuff like this. Felt like a Sea Monkeys kit with the 3 easy steps.
