New In Ground Shotcrete Pool

I would just do a swimout type bench in place of the deep end steps. And keep the shallow end cut-in steps. I like the idea but just think two full sets of steps are more than is needed and do eat up space on your pool's signature feature, the ledge.

Also, I would recommend adding two more returns into the ledge area. So you have one on both sides of all three lights up there. Dirt will accumulate and a robot will not do the ledge, so far as I understand their abilities. I don't have a ledge. Most folks accept that benches and ledges will need to be brushed before the robot goes to work. And only two returns up there on that large space, may not do what you are hoping for keeping it clean of the dust-like debris.

I have a question about SWG. We are getting the IC20 which is rated for 20K gallons the pool will end up being a little more than 11K. The pool builder said I can do the IC 40 for the same price, but the IC 20 is best and doesn't want to over chlorinate the pool with the IC40. It sounds like from my very limited knowledge is that the IC 20 would be fine, but should I go with the IC 40? Wouldn't the IC 40 just run a lower percentage with plenty of room to produce more if needed? Thanks for the help.

Pal,

The IC40 will work fine. You can use "effects of adding" feature in Pool Math to help figure out your settings. When I do this for your 11,000 gal pool and your IC 40 it indicates power setting of 35% will add 1.5 ppm of FC in 6.75 hrs of run time. 1.5 ppm is pretty normal for this time of year in FL but this varies widely between pools. Key thing you want is to start out running close to 50% or less. You've got a lot of leeway to go down or up. Please do try out this feature on Pool Math. I found it extremely helpful when starting up my SWG for the first time.

I hope this helps!

Chris

PS I run 30% and 7 hrs. FC is very steady at 4-5 ppm FC within .5 ppm of predicted.

Since you have Pentair automation, you can't go too large. I'd certainly get the IC40 for $0 upcharge. If you didn't have Pentair automation, you would be limited to changing the cell in 20% increments which would cause problems if it was too oversized because you'd need finer adjustments than were available.

Thanks for all the help so far. We were supposed to start Monday but after laying out the pool using some tarps in the back yard we decided it was just too small and have increased the size of the pool to 27x20 and reducing the tanning ledger to 6' instead of the 8'. The swim area will now be 14x27 and the ledge 6x27. The cost was minimal in the grand scheme of things and should only delay the build by about a week.

I'm really pushing to add a 3' deep end swim out bench recessed into the tanning ledge at the deep end too.

We are going with the IC 40 now for sure.

I'm still struggling with the skimmer placement as both skimmers will be visible from the house which isn't a deal killer but I'm wondering if there's a good way to put the skimmers at each end of the pool and how that would perform/look?
