New in ground Shotcrete Pool Build in South Florida.

I didn't even think of that! We have a small amount of water in the bottom which I haven't done anything about. My PB said it was okay not to water the shotcrete. They watered it down after applying and once more after that. He said that was all it needed. I hope so!

Few updates. Eletrical rough inspection passed. All lights are wired up and transformers installed. PB called, tile and coping came in and should be starting the install towards the end of this week or beginning of next. Pool Equipment should also come in next week, apparently the filter was not in stock at his supply store, however we did received the pool slide and automation components. We went with the intellitouch I7+3.

Pool Lights. We have 2 of them

Spa Light

LED Bubbler

Junction boxes and transformers

Slide: 2 huge boxes

Automation: Screenlogic 2 and Intellitouch I7

Ah, the TurboTwister! We thought about a slide for a while and it didn't end up working with our design, but this was the one we would have installed. Looks fun! The pool we used to belong to had two of them installed and they held up well under commercial duty.

Are you sure 1600 SF of decking will be enough? JK.

It's great to hear that the slide is pretty nice. All i was able to do was online digging since we don't know anybody that owns one. Figured take a shot and hope for the best. Our son will not be old enough to enjoy it just yet but I'm sure all of my friends kids will try it out and keep it ready for when his time comes. Now we are pricing a new irrigation system that its coming out to be a lot more expensive than we had anticipated. :hammer:.

Hey guys. thanks for checking up on me. NO PROGRESS AT ALL!!!:grrrr::grrrr:. After waiting two weeks for the tile guy to become available and for the coping and tile to be delivered our day finally came. Once i got home from work i looked at the travertine coping delivered by our pool builder and it was a horrible low grade, so i had to put a halt on the whole install. PB told me thats the same one they install all the time, and i believe him, but not good enough. I made a few calls and found possibly better quality travertine at a higher price. PB is issuing a credit and I will hopefully pick up tomorrow morning and pay the difference. All scheduled to restart tomorrow but not holding my breath..

those are probably the worst out of the first 10 i picked up and looked at, i didn't need to go any further.

I tried to make the purchase and pick up the new ones on saturday but no warehouse was open for pick up. PB was very receptive to me finding my own coping and didn't really give me a hard time. I hope its not just me being picky, but in my non-expert opinion that stone its not premium quality.

That is bad!!!!!!!!! I am sorry if that is what you always use you need to rethink how you do business.

I bet that the other people never looked at the pieces before they were put on. By the time they saw it they were done and it was more trouble than it was worth to redo.

Now if you had the time MAYBE you could pick through the bunches and find enough good one but I doubt it.

Good job!

Kim

I'm going through a pool build and have been watching your project. That does look like the standard travertine they use around the pool decks, at least in my area (Tampa). I'd be careful getting a higher grade. The pitting and texture is what makes travertine a good surface around the pool deck. Getting a smoother surface could potentially make the pool deck extremely slippery. I just installed the same travertine and I was nervous about the pitting, but now that it is installed I love the natural look and it's not slick during our Florida rains.

just my 2 cents - that travertine looks like select grade to me. Keep in mind - this is a natural stone and some pieces with excessive chipping and pitting are to be expected with any batch of travertine.

I'm not looking for a smooth surface and understand this is a natural stone and I can appreciate its beauty. I just think that that the batch delivered it's not premium grade rather commercial grade. If some of you guys can post pictures of your travertine coping it would be really helpful to compare.

I'm new to posting, so hopefully this works...

These are some pics from my patio. I ordered "walnut" but the installer and I both agree there's more color variation than what's typical. I love the way it turned out though so I don't mind! These pics are before any sand was put down and there's still a lot of construction dust.

As I understand it, when comparing premium grade coping and pavers, coping is always cleaner and the color more uniform throughout than pavers. Found a distributor that stresses his coping is premium grade, should be delivered tomorrow before noon. Let's wait and see, also some pool tile was delivered today but I'm not home. Will check the tile in the morning, Installers are due to show up in the morning as well. Hoping to kick start this project back into gear.

Thanks again to everyone for their replies. It's awesome to have this site as a safety net of knowledge.

Northrider, your travertine coping looks similar to what our PB originally tried to put in. It looks like the large 13x24 pavers that some PBs try to use as coping because its cheaper. Before our build I had a chance to look at a lot of pool coping at showrooms and you are correct it should be cleaner. There will be batch to batch color variations but the PB should be able to get a specific color lot set aside for use to minimize color.
