Thanks! We were a little nervous about it. But think it is turning out well.

Decided today to just go with Chlorine and not Salt Water. We've been debating it for awhile with the travertine coping and decking, and now we have changed out wall/spa wall covering to a natural ledgestone. It just made us more comfortable to go without the salt and not have to hassle with sealing it and such. Probably will still seal it at some point but I don't think it is as necessary.

I think you'll be happy either way and as Duraleigh said it's an easy add on afterwards if you change your mind.
Our PB said he's happy to install SWCG but normally asks why a customer wants to install it as it is a little more expensive and harder on natural rock. For me, it's for my skin (I have eczema) and he said that's a good reason and we should go with it and he'll seal everything for us. He has told me that I should go ahead and reseal it all myself every year (it will probably run me a couple of hundred $ in sealer each year - much cheaper than having to replace coping etc!)

Looking good!

With any luck our project will start next week and we also decided to skip the SWG due to travertine.

You stated that you were going with travertine tile decking. My PB and QDI rep talked us out of tile due to potential cracking of the thin stone. Supposedly temperature changes will crack the tile. For a little more money we are going with pavers. Not sure how big of a problem this is.

Re: New IG Pool in Cypress Texas! *New Pics 7/31/13*

Hmmmm... We were told the opposite from our PB and our QDI rep. Guess we'll find out! :) We will have a concrete deck with travertine tile on top. So unless we drop something heavy on it I think it should be ok.

That's a very unusual look for your plumbing at the equipment. I can't understand why they did the high loops. I would suggest they move the chlorinator from in front of the heater. I couldn't see the pump(s) being used, but hopefully they are variable speed. For a pool that size, you could have gone with a single configuration for the pool and spa...in case anyone else is planning to build this type. On your sanitation, there is a 3rd alternative to salt or chlorine. The majority of my pools are built with ozone created through UV light (this is NOT the corona discharge type that doesn't perform as well in our Houston climate). You do need a chlorinator with it, but the chlorine demand is very low. Swimming in ozonated water is like swimming in bottled water. As a matter of fact, check the labels on some of the "purified water" you buy at the grocery...it was likely created through ozone. This type replicates salt water in the way that it is good on the skin, eyes, etc. Salt water feels a little silkier, but it is hard on any natural stone (and even your equipment). Ozone should cost you no more than a salt pool. I use a type of ozone system that has a bypass to keep the ozonated water from going through the plumbing or the rest of the equipment. Introducing air into a pump can dry out the seals and cause your pump to fail. If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to offer my two cents!

Re: New IG Pool in Cypress Texas! *New Pics 7/31/13*

The general consensus on this forum is that ozone is not a great alternative in residential outdoor pools. Primarily, because you need to add chlorine to sanitize properly anyway, why not simply stick with chlorine and save the cost of the ozonator? I would not consider it a third alternative because it requires chlorine.

As far as the ozonator feeling like bottled water, that seems a stretch to me as I doubt any one on this forum has swum in bottled water to make the comparison.

Salt pools can be hard on some, but certainly not all natural stone. Many people on this forum have salt pools and report no issues whatsoever with their natural stone. It is not a fair statement to say it will affect all natural stone.

Full disclosure, I manage my pool water the old-fashioned, dim witted way with manual application of liquid chlorine but there is not a cleaner, more sparkling pool anywhere that I am aware of.

We have 2 pumps so we can run the spa and the water features at the same time. :p

I'll pass on the Ozone. :?

The did the big loops so that it's easier to get to the valves/equipment. It was my request.

Good point about the chlorinator. :goodjob:

I am kind of surprised they put the gas line ABOVE the water lines

Personally I would have wanted it well below in case you need to do PVC work. At least you have the pictures to remind you it is there.
