Hi All,

When my wife and I bought our current house five years ago I said “No Pools!” Fast-forward five years and after a brutally slow process to add an addition, we jumped on a house that went up for sale in our neighborhood that has the space we want. You guessed it, it has a pool! And it needs work. Hasn’t been used in two or three years per owner and has hole in liner.

Ironically things have flipped; I am now more interested in fixing up the pool and my wife would fill it in if I agreed. I am a handy person, mechanic by trade, and tend to research stuff a lot. We settle on the house at the end of the month and have plenty of other projects, but I’m already planning renovation of equipment pad.

I had a pool guy out to inspect during home purchase process and learned that pool has cinderblock wall construction. He seemed confident it was in good condition, but I’m reserving judgement until I get the old liner out; what I can’t see bothers me, so I need to get liner out before I’m comfortable there’s no blocks shifted or anything concerning.

At equipment pad pipes are broken at equipment I assume due to failure to winterize. Equipment is very old, PB also said undersized anyway and all needs replacement. Since then, I have been reading a bunch and found TFP. I am leaning toward Pentair equipment to include IntelliCenter, IntelliFlo, Clean & clear cartridge filter and IntelliChlor SWG. Also planning to add heater, but undecided on type; house has gas, so I have options.

Well I’ve written enough and will update after settlement when I have time to get photos and more time inspecting.
