New house, New-to-me pool, new adventure!

When I backwash, it goes to the street in front of my house. The DE stains the street and it either blows away, very dusty, or when it rains it gets washed away.

Using the hairnets does not increase my work load since I have to clean the skimmers anyway.

If your not interested, don't do it.

Yeah, when I backwash it just goes out in the yard.. wasn't picking a fight , was just curious.

A.O. there are three different kinds of filters. Some are harder to clean than others............the people who have the quid-cartridge filters will tell you it can take up to 45 mins to clean ALL 4 of them AND it is wet job as well.

Or you could be super special like me and have NO valve or option to backwash :) luckily due to where I live and no trees, we have it serviced in March and again in November to keep it fine tuned... [emoji23][emoji23]

I rent the property so I can't change the setup

Its a sand filter?? how do they clean it if it wont backwash?

No mine is DE... Service people come and tear it apart twice a year and replace the DE when they do.. It works and I haven't had to worry about a backwash yet

Pool needs about 4 1/2 more inches and it should be about mid skimmer. More than halfway there!

More updates will probably roll in when I take some time off work for the little one (soon, not yet unfortunately).

Sorry for the lack of excitement... Life and stuff. [emoji847]

Not any old skimmer basket would work right? Wouldn't I need a specific one?

Will be ordering that and some version of skimmer socks (nylons most likely).

Admittedly I have not ordered my test kit.... Purchasing the fence took a good chunk of the funding but I definitely understand the importance of it and will hopefully be ordering it very soon.

Skimmer basket--------break out your tape measure and take down some numbers.......wide, deep, etc. There are different sizes.

Look at these for skimmers "socks":

Disposable Hair Net, Spun-Bonded Polypropylene, White, 100 per Bag: Science Lab Hairnets: Amazon.com: Industrial Scientific

We hear ya on the $$ for the fence! Got to keep the babies safe! Please do the test kit next though as it will save you money in the long run.......you don't want to just dump in bleach..........you might not add enough or too much so it will be a waste of time and money in the end.

Thanks Kim! I know it takes a little bit to get the test kit so I'll see if I can order it in the next day or so.

Also for the skimmer basket, some look tapered in the bottom, so seem straight in the sides... is that something I should account for when looking and measuring?

I THINK so long as it fits in the hole it will work............this might be one thing you want to buy at a local pool store just so you can take back the one that does not fit.

When you order the test kit make sure to order the TF-100 XL so you have enough regents to get you through the clearing of the pool. Look in my siggy for where to order it from.

Good idea on the skimmer baskets, Kim. I toyed with replacing mine online, but went to the pool store and bought the exact fit for my skimmer. I also like to support our Mom and Pop PS with parts and toys.

Blcnghtsky: Somewhere inside the skimmer, maybe on the cover, will be the make and model of the skimmer.

Skimmer basket and TF100 XL ordered. Skimmer here by Friday, test kit in process.

Pool water now rests JUST below skimmer and is starting to cover jets. Water seems to be holding well.

I randomly discovered that there are no lights in the pool, I guess I don't have to worry about water leaks from those then!

My BIL has a leaf net from when they had an above ground pool he is willing to pass along to me.

I don't have pool lights either... but I ordered these that I need to pick up and from my research look like they will be awesome!

Fence will sit about 2 feet away from the concrete pad into the grass... Eventually I would like to remove the grass altogether from that area and put down either rock or concrete, but that will come at another time.

Baby is due this weekend, but we will take it any day!
