Temecula
Well I am a new pool owner and I am realizing that I am doing it wrong. :cry:

Background:

I live in Temecula, CA
I have an IG pool approx 28,000 gallons with pebble-tec and SWG.
All new Jandy equipment

I used the Taylor 2006c test kit.

FC = 9.2ppm
CC = 1.2ppm
pH = 8
TA = 150ppm
CH = 260ppm
CYA = 40ppm

Well My numbers are way off. I have also had some issues with Algae for the first time. I need to SLAM the pool from what I understand.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
doctordoctor

Awrighty then! Here's the Rx: Read this--> SLAM Process

Something may have caused your FC to drop unexpectedly....maybe a large pool party? A baby in diapers? Something getting into your water from the yard...who knows what? It happens.

Use Muriatic Acid to lower your pH to 7.2. Don't use dry acid as the sulphites are bad for the SW cell and your plaster. This will have a side benefit of also lowering your TA a bit. yay.

Find a source for buying a lot of liquid chlorine (or plain, unscented, non-thickened, non-Clorox brand bleach). Walmart's 10% Pool Essential brand found in the pool section is a good option, but in your area you can also buy carjugs of it at pool stores. Get about 10 gallons to start with.

Your CYA while low for a SWG pool, is perfect for a SLAM procedure. Afterwards you might want to take that up a bit [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

Your CH is low, but in CA it will raise in no time on its own via evaporation. You might want to take it up to 300, but I wouldn't go too much higher as it will go on its own. A *lot* of posters from out west would kill to have your CH, LOL. Pool School - Recommended Levels

The more often you test FC only and re-dose your pool back up to the SLAM level (for 40 cya its 16ppm) it will go fast. Even hourly at first. And brush daily if not more often!

Check for algae behind ladders or lights and any hiding places you can find. Areas of poor circulation, y'know?

Take a picture of the pool daily at the same place (show us!! we love pics) as this helps you see change better sometimes. Looking down at stairs is a good place.

Holler back if you have any questions-

What's my FC goal? Using the chart it doesn't show where I should be with a cya at 40 for a SWG pool.

You are lucky actually since you have the lower cya you only need to bring FC to 16. Shut off the swg during the slam (place at 0%).

Once you reach all 3 criteria for the slam you can let your FC drift back down to normal levels and start the cwg again at that point you should also raise your cya to 70 and uses the swg cya chart.

Well I guess beginners luck! What should I use to raise the CYA? I have a big party planned in 2 days so will SLAM after that. I appreciate all of your help. You're just what the Doctor ordered!

Turn your swg back on as your FC drops nearer to your desired FC.

Remember that your FC should be commensurate with the CYA : [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

You can start raising your CYA anytime now...use PoolMath to help you know how much to add. Go slow, you do not want to overshoot this as the only way to remove it is to drain and replace water. I'd say add only 2/3 of what PoolMath calls for and retest in a few days and move on from there if necessary.
