NEW Gunite IG pool - West Texas

Got home to this

And I'm freaking excited.

Oh and Patrick, you can see the wood gate. Behind that is where the pump etc will be. I'll replace the gate. Or figure something out there. Not sure what.

Oh ok, I see. And they are ready to shoot tomorrow it looks like. It goes pretty fast really...you'd be surprised. As long as they don't get too many clogs in the gunite hose, it goes pretty smooth. Should be a nice day for it tomorrow it looks like. You'll have cement trucks coming and going for a little while. Keep it wet the first few days when you can. Mine told me 3-4 times a day with a decent wet-down.

It is exciting! Glad they are shooting for you, and cant wait to see it.

Well the part with rebar sticking out of it is going to become 2''x2'' steps for tile. He said doing that by hand is the only way to get it right.

The back (with PVC sticking out) will have a white man made stone coping.

We Cracked open some adult beverages with the workers at the end of the day in appreciation for their hard work.

My PB said he didn't mind if we did that sometime, but please wait until they are finished that day whenever we do.

Thus far, my wife took out hot Chocolate on the cold days. They probably think we are squares.

Oh contraire!!!

Lol. Yeah. That was the first time he let us booze em up. and of course they were done. Haha

Mason couldn't come this weekend. So he will be back tues. PB will also be back tues I think.

Right now we are sitting out enjoying our cement pond. lol. I'm working on convincing DW that Quartz is worth the extra $. Regarding that. Is it different to add quartz granules (for lack of better term) to "normal" marble plaster vs buying premixed quartz plaster? Reason I ask...I'm aiming to get a very light blue color to the plaster. So I though small blue quartz pieces would achieve this.

Oh and here's a shot with entire pool in it. Don't ask the position I had to perch myself into to get this.

Ok, I won't ask.

It won't take much if you went with a darker blue mix of Quartz aggregate, and that's a good thing because those deep blue ones are very pricey. You just have to see what he deals with, and what will mix well with what. PB will be able to tell you that. Mine does custom blends all the time, but all I know for sure, is that they have to be compatible, preferably of the same brand. Honest, a true quartz finish is more durable and longer lasting than plain plaster. If I could afford to have someone put in Wet Edge, I would, but the next best option for me is CLI. If you look at my thread, we are currently going to mix 3 bags of the light blue "Sapphire" with 9 bags of "Granite" for a 12 bag batch. Our PB hasn't mixed these before, so it will be an experiment. Kinda scary, but kind of interesting and challenging too. We are planning on experimenting with the blend before final application so we can adjust it. We want a little touch of Blue, but we are in the outsiders camp like you of wanting a lighter finish. I've not looked at one pool in all this with a light enough finish for us by a long shot. I kept hoping to see just one with something close to what we wanted, but no dice.

I like talking about this end of the build a lot, and think some people take it too lightly. It's so important, and it determines what you will see every day. To me, the durability and appearance of the water color is a huge deal. Color is a matter of taste and subjective, but I like seeing the natural blue hue even a white finish will give off. It's all lost with a dark bottom, and that's why I don't prefer them. It's all in what you like, so no right or wrong, just what floats your boat. See what PB says on the blend and work it from there is my best suggestion.

Well I haven't seen him in person yet, but he and a few guys came by, they removed the rest of the forms, and then nailed forms to the inside of the pool, using what looked like a surveyors tool. I assume they are making everything level. (they used some sort of quickrete adhesion promoter. White liquid stuff)

I forgot to take pics until it was dark...I really need to replace the second security light to LED. Stupid LED light is 80 bucks...but it is BRIGHT.

I just noticed in a pic a few posts up, there's a pile of wood. That's roots they pulled/cut out of the walls of my pool. This doesn't include the roots they hauled off. Stupid Elm tree.

They used the used forms from my build like that. They put them in with a water level, and this was the line for squaring/leveling of the waterline tile.

ok cool. I thought I'd seen this done before on at least one thread. They have been working this morning as well. they removed the forms and cleaned up the face of the pool where tile will go.

I spoke w/ Mason regarding fence. The weather delayed his other job that he was planning on finishing this weekend...so may be a few days before he's back at my house. This is perfectly fine for me, as the pool still has quite a long way to go. PB wants the 4" thick wall up ASAP so he can get all the plumbing to it's proper locations at the pad site. But as with everything, patience is key.

They did the vertical 6-8" all the way around. Actually shocked me to see the PB himself doing actual work. He's been here daily doing work himself. He added a signature. But I think he's dated himself with his terminology.

My wife added the smilie. This guy is a character.
