Hi all,
The install and deck concrete work on our new fiberglass pool just wrapped up. The PB was out for a vacuuming to get out the pea gravel and debris from the concrete guys last Friday. The PB said he'd put the chemicals in I'd need to get through the winter. I haven't yet heard back from him what he put in as I wasn't home when they came to vacuum.
The pool was winterized as they were installing it - pool antifreeze poured in the returns/bubbler/skimmer lines which were plugged ahead of the fill. The pool equipment has not been run and was filled during construction from a couple water trucks plus a top-up with my hose. PB had me add a jug of 12.5% sanitizer every week for the last 3 weeks.
I gave my new TF-Pro Salt test kit a whirl this morning. I took a sample from ~1.5ft deep in a glass pyrex to test inside. I got the following upon testing:
FC - 0ppm (Test sample was completely clear after adding the scoop of R-0870. Turned pink when I rinsed the sample out in the sink.)
PH - 9.1 (bright pink in the test kit.. verified used my Apera PH60 from my homebrew water equipment)
TA - 80ppm
CYA - 0 (could see the black dot with a full tube)
CH - 100ppm
Salt - did not test
Temp - 44°F
Looks like I certainly need to address the basic pH.. I imagine all the concrete work/cleanup drove the alkalinity up. Pool math suggested 114oz of muriatic acid.
Any other recommendations for chlorine levels or others to weather the Cincinnati winter before we open in spring? Concrete guy did not recommend putting a cover on it that sits on the concrete until Feb due to staining concerns, so will likely be uncovered most of the winter.
Thanks!
