Alright sounds good. Yes, I do have crystal clear water.

This might be a dumb question but are there any other options for disposing of all the used jugs besides my weekly recycling? I'm probably close to 3 dozen already.
 
I've seen some people with AG pools use old jugs to help hold down the winter cover. You won't need 3 dozen though.

I get my chlorine from Riverside Chemical on River Rd in NT. It comes in a 5 gallon jug ($10 deposit) that you just swap next time you get some. It costs $15.50 with tax & is 12.5%. 19 cents per effective ounce. Probably not worth the drive for you unless your work commute gets you somewhat close.
 
Ok, I was back at Walmart today, picked up enough of the 10% liquid chlorine so I have enough to add 3+ jugs every hour for all morning and afternoon tomorrow. The looks and comments I've gotten over buying so much bleach at once is amusing!

Running my vacuum to make sure it's clean of dirt and debris.

i work downtown so unfortunately Riverside isn't really close enough to make it worth the drive..

Even with maintaining the FC at a higher level, it doesn't seem like the stains are lightening up. I did try brushing them. Do I need to keep maintaining the high FC for a while?
 
Stay at it, looks like the FC is starting to hold. Would still like to see CC's a little lower. Plan your last chlorine addition so you have time to check FC an hour later. We need your last test tonight after sunset (no chlorine additions after that test) & your morning test before sunrise if possible. I think you're almost done with the slam then we'll see if anyone has any ideas to remove the stains.
 
Keep up the SLAM.
Brush the entire pool today.
Might be a good time to clean the cartridges in your filter.
Pull the stairs from the pool & look at the underside for any algae or slim. Clean them if you find anything.
Repeat the OCLT tonight. Empty skimmer & filter strainers when you take the last chlorine reading tonight.

PS - You're close to being done but something is still consuming the chlorine.

On a side note, I found and removed/killed what I think was a water boatman. I saw it the other day but didn't know what it was so did a little research.
 
I'll continue the SLAM this evening and run another OCLT as well. Seems like something is still in there consuming the chlorine.

I cleaned out my cartridge and both filter baskets.

I also checked around my ladder and didn't see anything. I do have an idea, the previous owners (who installed the pool) had duct taped a section of a pool noodle to the bottom of the ladder to prevent it from scraping the liner, I've replaced that noodle and duct tape a few times... I'm going to remove it tonight if possible or tomorrow, I'm wondering if something in either the noodle and/or duct tape is breaking down into the water and contributing to my issue.

Sounds like a great place for algae to hide. I'd pull the ladder entirely and see if that helps, if it does you can clean the ladder with a stronger concentration of bleach
 
Ok thanks guys! I removed the noodles and duct tape entirely but we used the pool tonight so the ladder is back in. I also did a thorough brushing yesterday while I was in the pool.

The walls don't feel slimy to me, they just feel smooth.

I just ran a test at 7:30pm:

FC 14
CC 0

I still have those brownish stains but they have lightened since starting the SLAM. I added 1 jug of the 10% to bring the FC back up, and I'll test again in the morning.

Could I be dealing with a black or brown algae?

Walmart also sells a 2 pack of 10% liquid chlorine that’s knocks the cost per oz of chlorine down a little more, down to $0.25 an oz. Also, at my Walmart, the 2 packs always have newer dates on them. Some of the single jugs have dates back to 17 107!
