Hello TFP
It’s been awhile since I last posted, lots of changes and I need help.
I’ve moved from Tennessee to Pennsylvania, now living in a 55+ community with a community pool and we need lots of help.
Pennsylvania requirements are new to me, and the team (combination of community volunteers to measure/ record FC and pH twice daily which is state requirement, and local pool management company with typical weekly pool clean and adjustment of the automatic pool sanitation system (liquid chlorine and acid) ) are struggling to effectively manage the water.
Automation system is only controlling chlorine and acid feeders, not connected to heaters, pumps or lighting
First big question- can I get guidance here on TFP for our community pool?
I’m in the process of collecting all of the pool and spa specifics and will post to my signature shortly.
The range of challenges is significant, I’ll summarize some of them here, but I suspect I would need to divide and conquer the issues in a systematic approach
Current challenges:
Automation system that monitors chlorine and pH is encountering challenges reading chlorine and dispensing
It appears based upon yesterday meeting with representative from the pool builder that the automation system, specifically the probes that measures chlorine are incompatible with CYA. Both pool and spa have some level of CYA as I’ve found pucks and buckets of stablizer in the pool room.
Plus Pennsylvania does not seem to like CYA in their community pools?
They are currently using Taylor kit 2005 but I don’t know if it’s new reagents this year or older. And my observations are they are somewhat inconsistent in their attention to detail with drop sizes ( bottle held at off angles) so I’m not very confident in either the automation readings nor the manual readings ( I will be holding pool school in near future, initial focus proper testing, and I fully intent to leverage all the great TFP materials, videos, etc)
The automation chlorine and pH readings rarely match manual testing, chlorine high, low, nonexistent or super high, pH readings generally seem to be closer to each other
We’ve encountered issues with automated pool and spa filer system
The two primary Hayward 2.75 hp variable speed pumps are running at full speed 100% of the time
System has three sand filters, I haven’t even looked at yet so more to come there
Some lights don’t work or only appear half brightness
And many more but you get the idea.
Pool/spa automation controller is a German manufacture:
ProMinuet
DULCOMETER®
DCM 3 series Aquatic Water Quality Controller
Pool and spa basics
Pool and spa are 2+ years old
Pool
Plaster
38,000 gallons
One Hayward 2.75 hp variable speed pump
Three skimmers
Two floor drains
4 returns on pool floor
Spa
Plaster
1,500 gallons
Two Hayward 2.75 hp variable speed pumps
One pump dedicated to filter/heating and chlorination
One pump dedicated to spa jets
Note, I’m getting new Taylor 2005 or 6 test kit in next couple days, provided by the pool company.
Ok, I know this is allot of basic and non specific info, my basic question is can I leverage TFP to help me get my arms around this monster?
If so I’ll break issues into the proper forums, if not where might I look for assistance?
Also, pool is clear, open and being used by the community, last year was a night mare I’ve been told, but this year the combined team thru sheer will power has kept it open and I guess in compliance with state regulations
Thank you
Craig
