New Build - Tucson, AZ

Davis colors- "Dune". Acid etched finish. I was going for an aged look with some grip and they nailed it.

Wall installation has begun, footers are dug

... and they found the sewer, 4 inches higher than it was supposed to be

The guys were great, repaired it this morning and still on schedule. I have a theoretical plaster date set in mid july.

Perimeter wall today/tomorrow, plaster next week!

I also thought ahead and asked for a 3" pvc conduit to be put in the footer on the yard side of the wall so I can fish anaconda and/or cpvc through it to any point on the wall to get water/power.

I had a nice chat with the owner of the construction company doing everything but the pool proper and found out that he and the guy that owns the pool company I'm using worked together at Tucson's original pool company which existed from the 40s through the 70s. So my period-esque pool is being built by guys that worked at the company that would have built it contemporary to my house build.

Also I had assumed colored concrete was the right choice for me and I ran across this in an article about that original company.

Most pools were about 15 by 30 feet, rectangular or oval, with 4 feet of surrounding deck.

"We had colored concrete. Kool Deck did not come until the mid-1950s or later."

so my guess at period-accurate decking was correct for the time and place :-D

Don't know actually-- gunite and electrical were subs but plumbing/decking was in-house. I'll find out when they show up I guess.

I doubt if they have in house plastering, I bet they sub it out. The only two or three do their own in Tucson. I learned alot in the last 6 months about how it all works, at least here in Tucson. It all started 50 or so years ago and one family, I forget the name, did most if not all of plastering in town. Over the years they have had their own families and alot of them continue to plaster. So what I understand they are all pretty much related. I had the guys from Stewarts and they did an amazing job. If I had to do it again I would pick Meadows,Pro plaster or Stewarts or Luis Rodriguez with Rodriguez plaster. They seem to be related and all know each other so it really doesn't seem like it matters much who does it. Good luck, looks great so far.

So, rain.

then more rain.

been sitting at wall done for a bit, normally I love the monsoon, but if it could take a break for just a week it would be great. Filling the pool now isn't helpful

Final inspection passed today, assuming the rain holds off, finally plaster this week.

Very impressive build. Was hoping to see a full pool by the time I read through this... but I'll wait. *sigh* lol
