The toe tile was installed by the tile & coping crew a few days before plaster. The plaster crew ensured the tiles were level with the plaster when they did their work.

BTW, won't it be an issue if the ruler touches the plaster when measuring? I am not sure how soft would be the new plaster when filling the pool.
Can you advise what this is? Are you referring to a backflow preventer?
My pool fill line is connected to (and controlled by) my landscape irrigation system. When I want to fill the pool, I run that zone on my sprinkler controller. The line has a backflow preventer (PVB).
The center tile is removable. Underneath is a PVC drain pipe. If flower pots are placed on top of the columns, water can drain neatly through the pipe.

They help visually identify the edges of the steps and benches for safety.
Pool returns are "Offset Loop" and water features are "Multi-Line".
My setup is simple, reliable, effective, easy to service/repair (if necessary), and much less expensive than an autofill. I have complete control over when the pool is filled. I'm very happy with it.
In other words you have a loop encircling your pool with the returns "teeing" into the loop? Is there a particular reason you decided on this methodology? BTW, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions as I strive to learn about the pool building process and thinking that goes into it.

The plumber built it that way and it makes sense to me. I didn't specifically tell him to do it.
Unfortunately this also seems to be the costliest method, as well.
