Hi everyone!

ive been lurking for a while...finally finished the design process, and am about halfway through construction.

Decades ago, I was a landscape designer designing high end pools. Boy, it's been rough designing my own!

Details:

18 x 37 550sf
spa is huge. 12x6
8' deep(my husband demanded this)

Pool design software wasn't readily available all those years ago, I had a bit of a learning curve using pool studio. But here it is.

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for even high-end pool designers...

I like your design.. I would have gone with a bigger single builder rather than two individual buildings, but that is just me...

I like the deck area and fire pit..

If you have read this site much, you'll know we are all about testing and pool chlorination.

I think one of the often overlooked things about designing a pools is how it will be chlorinated and what specific equipment will be used.

we are using Pentair products

400k but heater
variable speed pump
catrt filet.
Mineral system

we have three return lines, and two sheer descents plus the spa spillway.

we are going with real stacked stone on the RBB.

the reason for the smaller two cabins is because they don't require permits. Out city will rape us on permits, plus will require other inspections and tests. Our neighbor attempted this and ended up not building because of it.

Already looking good Tamera...neat design with fire pit. Your landscape design skills show up right away. I would certainly like any suggestions (see the link in my signature). I am very new to this site as well but the folks are super helpful and will walk you through any concerns or questions. I would create a signature line with pool details so when folks look it makes it easy as your thread gets longer. Keep the pics coming, seriously consider becoming a member and get the TF-100 test kit.

Well, we originally wanted to go salt, but my husband was convinced otherwise. It's the Frog system. But honestly, after reading about it, Im worried. When I was designing pools back in the 80's and 90s, salt pools were the the barre....I don't know what the barre is now.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

We have a Salt Water pool and LOVE it......

I also have saltwater and love it! Only maintenance seems to be adding muriatic acid once a week to lower the ph.

One thing I noticed in your design is the planters right next to the pool. I just saw another member post about how to best remove them. I'd recommend taking a look at their thread. I think their main complaint was the dog digs in them and throws mulch into the pool and the plants drop their dead leaves into the pool. Something to think about.

Tam,

If you search this site you will see that we have a pretty negative opinion of the Frog.. In theory it adds silver or copper to the water, which is supposed to reduce the amount of chlorine needed. In practice the only thing it reduces is the amount of money in your wallet.

I would suggest going back to a Saltwater system. The main myth about a saltwater pool is that it can cause soft stone, like flagstone, to flak away. Even if this were true, you clearly do not have that issue.

I have a salt system and find that it is by far the most hands off approach to pool sanitization.

Any idea why your pool builder was against a saltwater system?

tile, coping and rockwork done. Today we are laying out deck forms. Tomorrow, 1650 sf of deck is being poured.

Great progress T...I concur on SWG for pool. I'm no expert and it all comes down to personal choice. My SWG won't get turned on for another 3 weeks and I am already sick of the constant addition of bleach and water testing constantly. Yes and no.

My husband didn't want me to OB it. I'm battling colon cancer, and I don't need the stress. That said, I wish I would have. Ive already done much of the supervision and all if the layout. The builder is driving me nutty.

I have a dilema with pool fence

it is required by code that it be 5'. The city will not allow me to use mesh fencing.

My biggest problem is that the house cant be used as a barrier. And the property is too big to fence. Plus I cant run the fence in the garden next to the deck because then it would be climable.

Here is an overhead view of the property...the driveway is a breezeway and there is no way to gate it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The mesh fence is a no go, even though its allowed by state code, the city is not allowing it

What I would do is ask the city inspector to come out and talk with your and share ideas of what KIND of fence and placement of the fence he would "pass". You need to do this NOW before the decking is put in so you can move the forms if need be.

Good luck and let us know what you find out. I have a couple of ideas but need to know kind of fence first.

A lot of people in your situation have chain link fence installed to pass the inspection. Not the most beautiful things but it would get the job done at least until you decide what you want to do and more funds are available.

I live in an area with 1 acre plus lots and that's exactly what most do. You'd go broke trying to fence the entire property.
