New build in Austin

I suspect this project is done, but I'm also in Austin and used the Globrites from Pentair - they are basically garbage. I've replaced all of them multiple times now over the years - at least most of this is covered by warranty.

Also, the lights pointing up? not a good look [sorry, I see these are some sort of glowing bubbler?]. These lights are designed to fit in vertical walls/steps where there isn't much space. They put off a lot of light (IMO) - especially if you're plaster is lighter. 5-6 lights should be very bright. And of course, never have them pointing back at the house.
 
Finally about to start this pool build. The house construction has taken awhile. Go figure. :)

Im trying to decide on stair location. One option is from the tanning ledge. The other is from the end of the pool. You can see the options in the attached rawing and pictures.

So my questions to the pros and those who have had pools for a while:

1. What stair location do you like best?
2. One the black and white drawing and one of the images you can see where we could make this pool larger by taking out the decking by the tanning lounge. Do you prefer the parger pool or the extra decking section?

Thanks for any thoughts and will e posting more often as we progress. Hope these images aren't too small. I reduced them for file size (looks like I need to add another post or two for pics).

OK, looks like I cant post the 3-D images as I exceeded my quota, but you should be able to get an idea of stair location and the cut out we could make to increase the pool size. Thanks for any thoughts.

I like the steps off of the shelf and the bench running along the wall like in the top drawing. I like how it looks better and think it will work great.

I also like the step out by the spa as that will help people go from the spa to the pool/shelf.

Instead of making and overflow spa use the top of the spa area for a space for seating in that corner? Thanks as always for our thoughts!
 
More seating is always good! Also a overflow spa will push up your PH every time you use it. I would also use care to not block the view of the main pool body from the house so don't go too high for the wall of the spa.

Ok, thinking about doing a depth of 4.5’ all around the pool. I’ve stayed at hotels that have big pools like this and have a relative who has done it. Seems to make for a great social pool as people can stand anywhere. Also, we will not have toddlers/young kids in pool. Ours are in college.

Pros amd cons?
 
I love pools with a standard depth for socialising. I guess the only thing to consider is that those kids in college may have kids of their own that they’ll bring over. The sun shelf will be great for when they’re little, but once they’re older they’ll want to jump in etc. At the end of the day you’re building the pool for you though.

Yes, 4.5' is good for lap swimming. Measure your arm while it hangs down while you lean over. Go from the shoulder blade to the tips of your fingers. 4.5' gives you plenty of room for a good crawl stroke for laps. NOW I am not sure if it will be deep enough for a good flip turn.

Hi all, I’m trying to post a final pic of layout with light placement etc...it’s saying I’m 93.3k above quota? Does this mean I’ve posted to many pics in this thread? Would really like to share final image and equipment for feedback as were breaking ground in next week. Thanks for any thoughts on how to get photos/images up.

Is it possible to delete previous images to make up space?

Became a member! I will post some pics of light locations when I get to my computer later.

Still seriously contemplating whether to go 4.5 feet all the way around or 3.5 to 6 or 7. They’ve started digging and I need to decide in the next couple of days. If you look at original post the deep end would be near the patio. So if you want to do a cannon ball this is the area. Any pros or cons to 6 or 7 feet at deep end? From oringal post you can see this area is only @ 10 feet wide.

4.5 feet in this area allows for socializing by the patio/grill area. But we also have the seating ledge that goes along entire house side of pool.

anyone have anymore thoughts to help me decide on 4.5 feet all the way around or 3.5 to 6 or 7? I know it’s personal just could go either way at this point. Thanks for any thoughts!
 
Kids are older now (college). I’ve thought about those steps at tanning too and the thought you brought up Tenamarie. If we moved them to the left I thought they might eat up more of the pool area.

If I did go with a deep end...is there a preference to 3.5 to 6 or 7? Or 4.5 to 6 or 7?
