New build - 18x36

Hi all,
It's spring and the workers are here putting the finishing touches on the pool build. They are adding 640# of salt today and hopefully firing up the pump for the first time. I do not have a main drain so I guess we just spread the salt throughout the entire pool??? Then run the pump for a while (and maybe sweep) to get it all moving around.

I know not to run the SWG for a day or so until the salt is all dissolved.

My question....the pool is a green swamp right now. I've kept most of the leaves out but warm weather brought on the algae bloom. What do I do about that? Do I wait until the salt is in and we can start generating chlorine? Or do I add bleach to bring the chlorine levels up?

This is a new pool so no chemicals have been added. The tap water was put in last fall and it stayed covered all winter.

Thanks for the help!!!!

You need to follow the SLAM process. shock-level-and-maintain Your SWCG should be turned off for the duration of the event. Read through the process and let us know if you have any questions. Follow it to the letter. Can't tell you how many people skip steps thinking somehow they don't apply to them!

Key in on the writing. The video is nice but essentially eye candy.

I figured that was going to be the answer. Problem is, I leave town Wednesday and will be gone until Sunday. The salt was put in the pool already but I haven't turned on the generator yet. So I have zero chlorine in the pool. Should I run the SWG while I'm gone to get some chlorine built up (and maybe slow the algae bloom? Or just leave the swamp alone until I return and have the time to SLAM?

Is there anything else I should do or add before I leave town?

If not, should I even run the pump or just let everything sit idle?

Running the SWG won't really hurt, but from your description, it probably won't really help either. Also, if there will not be anyone there to monitor the filter, I would hold off on running anything until you return. A cloudy, swampy, green mess will clog up a filter in no time, especially in the early stages of a SLAM.

I would wait until you return.

Grrrr....I was hoping opening day would go smoother.

Apparently the pump is losing it's prime as water is draining out of the pump basket. It's a closed system so my understanding is that should not happen. The builder is going to come back tomorrow and put a check valve on the return side. The sacrificial anode has a small leak so that is getting replaced as well. Not sure that small of leak could drain the system as quickly as it is though.

I have more testing / diagnosing to do. Very cold and rainy tonight so I stopped.

My pad is 10ft above water and about 70ft away.

Hi,

Thought I'd ask a couple questions here rather than start a new thread.

Pool is running well. The priming issue seemed to be caused by the male union in front of the pump. The builder put a bead of silicone around the joint and it fixed the problem. Has worked great for past couple weeks. The EasyTouch is also GREAT. Very happy with it so far. Pentair tech rep logged in remotely and set everything up for me. Very smooth.

One question:

I have a valve that I don't really need in most occasions. It's a 3-way valve on the downhill side that switches between Return Jets / Water Features and CLOSED. It's not automated so I keep it between both lines (see picture). Would it be better if the 3 way was Return Jets / Water Features / ON? The ON setting would be pointing toward the top of photo and would leave both Return Jets and Features both wide open.

If I open the top of this, can I change the orientation?

Or maybe it's OK to leave as-is....half between Features and Returns???
