new above ground pool water chemistry

We're replacing our old pool with a new one, to be installed tomorrow. I will be getting half a load of municipal water but also filling with well water as we're rural.

I'm concerned, because I've read that you should shock new water with granular shock but our temperatures in Ottawa are chilly this spring. I don't want it to sit at the bottom of the pool and eat through the new liner in cold water! Can I add liquid chlorine instead and if so, how much? It'll be a 21' round above ground pool with an average depth of 4'.

Thanks!

That's some old pool store talk. With fresh water you simply need to get it balanced ASAP. New water has no CYA, so you'll want to add stabilizer for a minimum CYA of 30. Add enough chlorine/regular bleach to get the FC to about 3 ppm on day 1, then balance it to the current CYA thereafter as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. Make sure to keep the pH in the mid 7s for now, and let us know if you have any other questions.
