I need to replace three Jandy nicheless lights that failed early (don’t show colors correctly anymore).

Do I need to drain the pool below the light level to avoid water flooding into the conduit? One of these is pretty deep…

I'm fairly certain the conduit doesn't remain dry. The light is somewhat sealed to the side of the pool but the conduit goes through and typically ends 4-8" above the pool water level to avoid flooding out of the conduit.

Confirming what PoolGate said, the conduits are designed to flood on nicheless lights. Just tie a cable to the end of the wire (duct tape works well) and pull the light out from the pool end. Attach new light wire to the pull string and pull it back through. Your light junction should be far enough above the water level to keep water from coming out of it.
