As the season is starting to get warmer, I am noticing some type of green growth on the side of the pool. It tends to grow mostly on one side. It seems to come off with a wire brush attachment but I’m hoping to find a solution that is easier to maintain. i’m wondering if anyone knows what this is and how to keep it from growing. The chlorine levels look good in the pool. See picture for reference.

I am a brand new pool owner. Bought the house that came with a pool.

Do you have a good test kit? If not, get one now...Link-->Test Kits Compared

When you have a test kit, do this test...Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Will tell us if you have algae. If you don't pass the test, then you want to do this...Link-->SLAM Process

Looks like algae to me...

Read some threads here from the countless people that were in your position. Follow the stories and you'll see a) all of the helpful people here that will have your back and b) how, if TFP method is followed, successful and sustainable this approach is. If you want the help from the experts here they can only help with reliable test results. Only test results that are reliable come from 2 kits unfortunately. Hope you adopt the TFP method for your new pool because I know how simple it is and how much $ it can save you. Best of luck.

You have algae which means the chlorine level is not good.

I was in almost your exact shoes this time last year (figuratively, speaking - the shoes in your picture look much nicer than mine). We even have the same old brick coping! As others have said, this site, its teachings, and its members are incredible. But you need that test kit.
Read Pool Care Basics, Then get you one of the test kits here: Test Kits Compared
I got the TF-Pro and have very pleased with it.
