Need help with out of control pool...

I don't want to jump on Bamas parade, hes giving you some really solid advice, so wait for him or another senior member to confirm this. If he's looking to raise your CYA and FC, the chlorine tabs may be useful. It will help him to make a decision if you check the composition of the tabs. Look on the container for the size and what they are, meaning either dichlor or trichlor and the percentage. Also, if it lists a cyanuric acid content, list that as well.

I'll check in the morning. I also realized that I've been multiplying wrong in my head, and I have been running at or slightly above 15 TC for the most of the time. Don't know if that's going to make a difference either way, but yea... someday I'll learn to do math without paper.

It's storming tonight, so I'll check it in the morning, picked up four more bleach, so for now the saga continues...

The tablets will help raise CYA but you'll still need to use some bleach to keep your FC at shock level. The tablets won't dissolve fast enough to shock the pool.

You really don't need to do math to figure this out. The Pool Calculator will do all the math for you. All you have to do is enter your test results in the now column and what you'd like them to be in the target column and it'll tell you how much to add. It even tells you the recommended ranges if you set your pool up in the bottom section.

No, when I diluted the pool water... Every time it read 4, I was thinking it was 12, when it was really 16 ( I was multiplying by three, not four for some reason ) so most of the time it was sitting at 12, it was really at 16, lol.

I picked up four more jugs last night. Luckily the storm brought little rain.

Visual report: Pool look more blue, and more clear this morning! I can nearly see the second rung on the ladder clearly.

Chemical report: TC down to 5 :( I'm going to check the pool calc and add. Today is overcast so hopefully that will help with chlorine loss.

The tabs are 3" slow dissolving tri. tabs, with 89% chlorine.

My husband pitched in $20 for bleach money out of his work fund ( he works away from home for 8 days at a time and has to have expense money ) as well... so hopefully we'll get this booger kept up at least until Tues when they TF100 should arrive!

By adding several trichlor tablets it'll raise the FC as well as the CYA which will help you use a little less bleach to keep the FC at shock level.

Keeping the FC at 16 instead of 12 actually helped your situation a little. So you weren't hurting anything.

Just keep up with how many tablets you use and the PC can figure out how much CYA you add. 80 oz ((10) 8oz tabs) wil raise your CYA about 30ppm.

Looking a little more clear this evening from this morning I think! The neighbor didn't have 45 jugs of bleach.. but she does have three lbs of CYA I can have! Woohoo! I was actually over there to borrow the sheep shears and saw it, and she said I didn't even set up the pool this year, you can have it. I forgot to grab it, but I'll pick it up later. :D Yea! :D

Having troubles getting it back up now... but I'll get the CYA tomorrow and some more bleach in the morning. Put the whole 4 gallons in today! ( It was the cheap brand so that might be part of it, it was cruise night in town last night/rod run night and it would've taken at least an hour to get through town to walmart, and at least that much back! So we picked some up at a little store on the edge of town )

Got a good backwash this evening, and hoping to see the second rung clearly tomorrow! It's still fuzzy but I can almost make out the third! WOO HOO! Yea... I'm kind of pathetic measuring my pool with ladder rungs, lol.

Since you're running your pump all the time during this you can add several trichlor pucks to the skimmer to help you keep some FC in there. Just keep up with how many you use so you'll know how much CYA you've added.

Okay, I've got three tablets in there, and added the 3 lbs of CYA. Picked up bleach, added some of that as well to get this baby back up to where it needs to go. TF100 should be here tomorrow!

First thing is to run a full bore of tests. The instructions in the lid of the kit are very easy to follow. On the drop tests keep dropping until the color no longer changes and don't count the last drop. On the CH test, swirl till you think your arm is going to fall off. Lots of swirling is required for this test.

Once the sun has gone down you'll want to test FC & CC with the FAS-DPD kit. You'll also want to test them again in the morning before the sun comes up. I know it's a bit of a pain but it'll tell us a lot about what's going on.

I told my husband that and he about died laughing... he said maybe I could check it before I go to bed... that might be about the same time! :p I better write it down, because I know I won't remember it!
