Need help with out of control pool...

Pool check!

TC 10! ( I diluted it )

I checked the CYA and it was at the same level as yesterday...

Pool calc... check. So now I just keep it at 14 until we start clearing up?

I have to add more water today ( or before I back wash again anyway!) as well, is that going to throw anything way off?

Pretty much, this test only goes to 30 and I'm going to estimate it's maybe at 10? At 30 it gets cloudy, and about half way there...

When I checked the last hour it was at 13! So I'm close! Woo hoo! It might be in my head, but I think it's looking less green... lol.

Hey... a few days is nothing compared to it not being even close to clear at all this year!

I tested a little later (lunch distracted me!) and we were sitting about 13, so it's doing pretty good I think.

My last test it was down to 12, so it lost a little... but is holding in the area! I appears to be getting a more blue green than just green, and maybe looks like it's getting a little clearer, if it's in my head, don't tell me, lol.

ETA: I also got the tf100 ordered today... it's ETA is Tuesday

Before bed we tested right about twelve again... at least there is a trend. I can't wait to see what it looks like in the morning, it's mostly cloudy, but not as green as this morning at all!

ETA: I was reading in the pool school section about DE, is this something I might want to add to increase my filter efficiency? I replaced the sand this season.

Looks the same as it did last night... :( Tested at 11 for chlorine :) Filter was really gunked up this morning though, and the backwash was a gray color. But it's happily working away again now!

That means you're getting stuff out of your water and clearing your pool. That's a very good thing.

Please keep doing what you're doing as long as your filter is collecting junk. Don't look to DE or any other "magic" additive that will clear the pool in an hour or so....it won't happen.

When your pool is almost perfectly clear and the shock process is complete, you could consider DE as an option. Do not use it as part of this process, tho. It'll clog the filter too quickly. Stay the course. you should see gradual improvement in your pool daily.

Yea, I'm not expecting a miracle cure here. I was just reading about it in the pool school and didn't know if it would be beneficial to filter the gunk out. The last of the bleach went in this morning... we'll be heading to town in about an hour so that worked out just fine.

Someone over filled the pool ( it was me... :( ) We ran to town and I totally forgot to turn off the well! It looks more clear though, lol. Chlorine level was back down ( not surprised there between a 4 hr lapse and the extra 8" of water! ) But luckily I returned with reinforcment bleach! Backwashed super good to help drain some of the water, got a lot of ucky stuff out. Back to the staring... my husband said it's not going to make it work faster checking it every ten minutes... but I think it might. He said he's glad he's not me, living his life obsessing about the pool not being clear... LOL My six year old is glad that all the "allergies" are getting out of there, but sad I told her she can't swim right not and I wasn't sure when it's be safe to swim again for sure. It's so cute to hear her say it I have yet to tell her it's algae... not allergies. :p

Storm last night. There was no visual change in the pool at all yesterday, in fact I think it may have gotten cloudier... Was down to 8 this morning, so I upped it. I actually took added more than I should have because we'll be gone a good part of the day, and I need to pick up more bleach. I've put in 28 jugs since the beginning of the "shock period"

Just trust that you're making progress. The last part takes the longest and it looks like it's not changing but it is.

If you had a FAS-DPD test kit you could run an overnight chlorine loss test to see if all the algae is dead but with the OTO kit you'll have to keep it at shock level until it's completely clear.

It's back down to 11, and I am out of bleach. I don't think that I'll be able to maintain this level much longer as I'm almost out of funds, between groceries, bleach, and the test kit I'm sitting on $30 and the next pay day is next Friday, and that's for any gas or food or anything I need... Unfortunately this check was mortgage and a bunch of other bills... I'm beginning to wonder if the pool is even worth it, and if it continues to be $400 a month... I sure can't afford it. :(

I don't have that many neighbors... I'm literally going through three jugs of bleach a day to maintain this level. At this rate I'd need 45 neighbors to make it until Friday. Still showing I have no CYA as well...

Do you have any CYA on hand? If so add enough to get you to 30ppm.

You're going through a rough spot with this. It will get much better. I use a couple of gallons a week and almost nothing else.

Once you get conrtrol and maintain it your cost will be greatly reduced.
