Need help on making decision.

I had 1500 sq.ft of stamped, colored concrete. Color was applied via powder on top. Not integral.

One of the workers left 65 finger prints in my concrete.

See attached pictures.

There remedy was “sanding” I declined as sanding may turn them into 65 worst fingerprints.

There next remedy is to remove each square that has fingerprints.
14 of them approximately 4x4 squares.

If they remove the 14 squares and repoured color and stamp my reservations are that I will end up with 14 4x4 squares that differ slightly in color just turning 1 problem from small 65 fingerprints, to 14 4x4 squares that look different.

I also have a picture of the worker that did it, caught red handed.

What would any of you do in this situation.

FYI the concrete cost me 15k.

The workers picture was screen shot from the owner of the company’s Instagram. He posted it not realizing what he did.

That is ugly and funny. I would have him “sand” and work on one set of fingerprints in the least conspicuous location and see if it comes out satisfactory to you.

14 squares out of how many in the deck?

There are 36 is squares that are 4x4. Then there are smaller ones around the pool in total around 50ish from doing some quick math.

All of the finger prints are near the seating area.

I attempted to sand with a super fine grit paper and it won’t work because of the textures of the stamp.

I think I will just file a complaint with the state contractor license board because this isn’t even close to the “ industry standard” for stamped or any concrete at all.

They can assign an arbitrator to make a ruling.

The wife is super .

So over 1/3 of the deck has faults.

What will you ask the arbitrator for? Total demo and new deck? I think if you make enough noise and push it you should get it.

I think if you give the builder some opportunities to try his remedies and show none are satisfactory it will strengthen your case for a full redo.

I will just plead my case to the arbitrator that the end result of sanding and or removing sections of concrete and repouring will ultimately result in a product that isn’t to industry standards. I might not have finger prints but I’ll have noticeably different color. Or I’ll have sanded concrete in 65 spots that’s noticable.

In the event I do let them do one or the other, and I don’t get a ruling in my favor then I may be subject to a product that is worst than what they initially screwed up.

It’s a double edge sword.

I am just curious what someone else would do if they were in this situation.

I would have them try to sand to fix it AND knock $1-2k off the price. Once you have furniture on there, I bet its one of those things only you and your wife will notice and can hide some of them with strategically placed furniture. If someone else does, you at least have a funny story behind it.

If that doesnt work, have any cop friends that can run the prints? :)

Good luck.
