Nautilus CC Plus - upgrade?

Hi all-

I currently have a Nautilus CC Plus in its second year of use. All around, it is a great pool cleaner that has saved me a TON of time. There are two things I would love to change/get more out of it. One would be an easier way to clean the filters. Some models I have seen do look like they have more of a box collector/filter system that would both allow more debris to be caught and would be easier to clean. I'd also love a cleaner that could clean/skim the pool surface. Are there any automated cleaners out there that do this?

Thanks!

F,

I recently upgraded from a Dolphin Premier, which uses the same filters that your Nautilus does... I built a simple wood frame that holds the individual filter grids to help me wash them with a garden hose.. It worked great.

I upgraded to an S200 which has the "box" style filter... You push a button at the bottom of the box and the bottom opens and allows you to use a garden hose with a nozzle to wash everything out.

I like the box better, but not enough to upgrade for just that reason.. I moved my five year old Premier to a rent to replace a 15 year old Dolphin with a cloth bag filter.

I really like the way the S200 cleans the waterline tile a lot better than my old Premier..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks, makes enough sense. Are there any that clean the pool surface (not just around the pool edge)? I know debris on the surface will eventually go through the pool filter and/or sink to the bottom to be picked up by my Nautilus but it would be great to be able to have the pool surface cleaned automatically and quickly ahead of getting into the pool.

F,

Why do your skimmers not work?? The surface of my pool is spotless, unless a leaf just fell in... If we have a big wind storm, I'll have stuff on top of the water, but an hour later it will all be gone..

They do make a surface skimmer, but I don't remember the name. Cost about $700 or $800 bucks.. Here ya go... Solar-Breeze NX2 Automatic Pool Cleaner | Solar Pool Tech

Thanks,

Thanks for the options, will have to take a closer look.

My skimmer works (I assume) reasonably well but there's just always stuff on the surface. It's one of those things, once you clean it, there's more stuff that comes drifting in. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though, I'm very new to this stuff!

The returns should be directed that they cause circulation either in a clockwise direction or counterclockwise direction. Mine go counterclockwise. The skimmer drain should be also open more than the main drain. I have a multiport valve ahead of my pump which can select 100% main drain / 0% skimmer, 50% / 50%, 0% main drain, 100% skimmer, or anywhere in between. When vacuuming I set it to about 85-90% skimmer. For normal filtering I set it to 75% skimmer. This helps the skimmer do its job of cleaning the water surface.
