Nature2 Removal

Hello,

I would like to remove my Nature2 cartridge after hearing the multitude of negative comments. I bought the house in March, and have ignored this feature thus far. I have been using the BBB method with excellent results. I do not know who installed the Nature2 cartridge- I assume the previous owners who had the pool company install a new sand filter and pump in 2014. The Nature2 cartridge seems like it screws down into the housing, so it seems it is not as simple as unscrewing it.

From what I understand (could be wrong) some people use trichlor tablets in what used to be a Nature2 setup with good results when they are away from home. How would one accomplish this? I would like to do this if possible. My CYA is at around 30, so I do not think the tablets would pose a threat when used sparingly.

To completely remove it, I think I would need to install a new section of PVC between the filter and return lines.

Please let me know what I should do.

Thanks!
Vinnie

Go ahead and use the rotary tool to open the unit and remove the metal balls. It will lead to staining, so the sooner they are out the better.

Personally, I would make plans to remove the entire unit. Mine had metal staining in the unit and it stained my pipes, pool and skimmers. Any metals remaining in the housing can leach out into your pool.

I left mine in place for a few years and I added pucks when I was away or whenever my CYA was a little low, but I regret doing so now because of the additional staining.

I replaced mine with a SWG last year and am very happy with my SWG.

The stains are all gone thanks to a badly needed replaster. My plaster was circa 1980s and prior owners had painted it.

Thank you!

I noticed that my cartridge does not look exactly like the units depicted in the link. I think I neglected to say I have the Nature2 Express.

It looks like this - http://www.poolsupplyworld.com/natu...NSB1mK9YI-Y10SXefhVMp81njUC46A3YaAgeEEALw_wcB

I was contemplating just using a rotary tool to cut a hole in the side???

Nature2 Express - replace the section of pipe. I did that this spring. The way the Express is installed is to cut a hole in the pipe, then put the holders on, then screw in the Express cartridge. I would not just leave it if you're not going to use it. I would leave mine in place over the winter to keep the critters out, then replace it in the spring when I was ready to open the pool (you need to chlorine shock the pool to activate the cartridge).

So it's sounding like this unit will not even do me any good to use with the tablets (when out of town). So is the most advisable method for tablet use a floater?

And yes, I will probably remove the entire setup in the spring.

Correct , this will not work as a tablet holder (there is no top to hold against the pressure).

floater will work, or you can get an inline tablet dispenser - floater is probably cheaper.
