I have a nasty brown stain below one of my returns in the shallow end of my Pebble Sheen pool. The pool is 18 years old and has been terrific. I usually ignore the pool other than a dichlor float during the winter and then start opening the pool around April. I live in Northern California. Well I am paying this year because there is a nasty brown stain in the Pebble Sheen. It brushed off a bit with a metal brush, but appears to be in the Pebble Sheen at this point. I have a little stain remover cup like thing where you can put in some muriatic acid, and then use it at the end of a pole and hold it on the stain. It seems to lighten it a bit, but is very labor intensive and the stain is big! I am including a photo here. Any thoughts on what to do here??

Looks like metals staining - iron or copper.

Crush up some vitamin C tablets into a paste and put it in s sock and rub it on the stain. If it lifts it is iron staining. If it gets darker it is copper staining.

Ascorbic Acid Treatment - Further Reading For iron staining

OK, excellent advice! I am going to give the vitamin C trick a try soon. If it works, I assume I could use ascorbic acid in a sock and spot treat the stain.
