First I am halfway through removing iron stains with ascorbic acid. I followed directions from forum plus Natural Chemistry directions on their product I used. I will attach before and after pics, but it's a night and day difference.

I have two different spots, not sure what they are. First are some black spots on pool. They are pretty round and would almost swear part of pool texture but they are very few and far between. They seemed to have appeared in last few weeks. They were unaffected by ascorbic acid treatment and brushing with metal brush has no effect.

Second, almost looks like a little sperm. I though a rusty piece of pool cage screw fell in pool and stained, but it also wasn't effected by ascorbic acid so now it doesn't appear to be rust.

Any ideas?

Also saw these, I swear these weren't there few days ago. Also not affected by brushing. These are bigger than the other black spots and aren't as regular in shape. I only see two like this.

Now I am thinking it may be black algae after all. I found these in the corner, little black raised bumps and these I could scrape off with my nail. I smeared on white cardboard and faint blue/green .

If that indeed is what it is, seems like I may be in for a struggle raising chlorine enough without bringing stains back.

I feel like I am having a conversation with myself...haha. So in digging through the forums, I came across threads that say "Metal Free" is not the recommended sequestarant. I knew it wasn't in the list but there was some fine print that said lots of other good ones too so I didn't think was a big deal.

I already added the recommended dose of metal free. Is it worth ordering either Pro Metal or Purple stuff and finish with that?? Looks like be 3-4 days before I can get from Amazon and no local stores have that I am aware of, going to check today. Any issues mixing and matching?

Yesterday added the acid and let run overnight with filter out. This morning replaced Filter added Magic Jack's Filter aid, and began running pump. I also added metal free once the filter aid was in. I brushed and vacuumed and was going to let run 24 hours before rinsing filter and resume balancing water. I did add polyquat 60 prior to beginning process. Before making any more missteps and wasting this much work, what's best course of action with the sequestrant and dealing with possible black algae.

Me again.....Scored a single bottle of Purple Stuff locally. Last they had and was the third pool store I checked.....anyway, says to use the full bottle for initial dose for 10k gallons which I am. Any concern adding now after adding the Metal Free this morning?
