My pump motor went bad, thinking about replacing the entire pump

Currently I have a Pentair Whisper Flo, its a 2.0 hp motor. Thinking about switching to a variable speed motor to cut down on electric costs. Is there a drop in replacement for this pump? Or will I need to change the plumbing? Should I switch brands or should I stick with Pentair? The pool size is 32,000 gallons. Is the 2.0 hp motor overkill or the right size?

If there is nothing wrong with the wet end, a new variable-speed motor could solve your issue. Do you have automation? If not a Nidec Neptune NPTQ270 motor would give you VSP capabilities with no plumbing involved. Be sure to replace all O rings, body gasket, shaft seal. Pentair 356198 kit has all the needed parts.
Whisperflow wet ends can last several decades with no issues if properly cared for. That usually just involves being sure the shaft seal doesn't leak and if it does replace it ASAP. Even then, the damage, other than the motor is usually limited to the sealplate.
