my first swg

What SWG and cell did you get?

Joel,

What brand and model on the swg. Get a Taylor K-1766 salt test and test your water for salt before you add any. You'll be surprised how much you already have and if you assume 0 you'll definitely end up too high. Use Pool Math to calculate # of salt needed. Most brands want you to have about 3500 ppm salt. If you've been using chlorine for a while don't be surprise if you have 1000 ppm already. Salt comes in 40# bags and you can use water softener salt so long as it has no additives. Many us Diamond Crystals, I use the large crystal salt in the blue bag from Tractor Supply. You will need to raise CYA close to 80 in summer.

i just switched from liquidator and chlorine to a swg
I had a Liquidator at my previous pool. You're going to love the SWCG.

please share some info such as salt bags to use when opening pool
You probably have quite a bit of salt in your water already. Measure with a K-1766 before you add any salt. For specific products, Diamond Crystal Solar Naturals is a great choice.

is stabilizer needed as in chlorine pool
Yes. You still have a chlorine pool, but now you generate fresh chlorine using the SWCG instead of adding LC to the Liquidator.
