I hesitate to post here because it has been five years since someone did, but my topic is most closely associated with the content here. The following has happened to me twice - using my Taylor 2006 kit I follow instructions for the full amounts of reagents and get a CH reading of 575, representing a big spike. Not long after the first time this happened I got water tested at the pool store and their CH reading was 255. So I tested again using the lesser reagent amounts suggested if you think the value will be high - result was 250. I'm getting water tested again in five days so we'll see what the pool store says. But from what my experience shows, if you test CH using the Taylor 2006 kit you'll get different results between the two reagent level options they define.

First, do not try to compare your testing with a pool store. Just do not get water tested at a pool store, unless for metals.
CH levels should be measured using a 10 ml sample of water. Each drop of reagent to blue is 25 ppm CH. You may have the fading endpoint thus use that process as described in Calcium Hardness - Trouble Free Pool
