Multiport handle leak

I have a hayward DE filter with a multiport valve. Was working fine but then it started to leak out of the tope handle. The leak was worse when on spa/recirculate mode. The equipment was on the older side so i just bought a whole new part (Hayward SPX0740BA Key, Cover and Handle Replacement for Multiport Valves). I installed it and on filter mode worked fine. I tested the spa/recirculate mode and started to leak (much slower than before but still a leak that started to drip out onto the floor after about a minute). I put it back to filter and seemed to work fine. I haven't tested backwash or waste yet as i need to keep on filter to catch up and don't want to risk anything.

Does anyone know why it would leak on only one port even with everything brand new?

That is a head scratcher. First thing to pop into my tiny brain is some sort of unexplained backpressure from spa mode, but not recirculate as that bypasses everything anyways. Is this something that only started from post-winter opening? Never happened previous seasons correct? When in spa mode, is there any notable difference is pressure at the jets? Might help the audience if you could post some pics of your equipment pad so we can see everything.

Welcome to TFP!

When I got a new MPV and put it on, it leaked worse than the original. Took it apart and found it was missing an o-ring that should have been there from the start. Had to get new o-rings sent from the supplier of the MPV.

Not likely what's happening here, just sharing that new parts can be defective too.
