Hi All! I'm starting year 2 with this pool that was installed in 2012. Last year, I replaced the heater and salt controller with the exact same brand/models that were already there to keep from moving any pipes. This worked fine, but I realized whomever installed the pool initially put the salt cell between the filter and heater instead of after the heater. My plan is to move the salt cell to the proper spot after the heater and before the diverter (the diverter is to turn on and off the slide). Its just sch40 PVC, and I believe I can do a vertical install of the cell if I need to. Is there anything you all can suggest in terms of cutting/breaking the existing welds, concerns about elbows/bends, or type of pvc I would need? Also, I purchased a new diverter (Pentair 263037 3-Way PVC 1-1/2 inch (2 inch slip outside) ), as the original one is difficult to operate evwn after fresh application of Magic Lube inside.

Good catch. :goodjob: Also good you have a new 3-way since it looks like you'll be doing some "exploratory surgery" on that PVC area. I see a few fittings butted-up against one another, so not much room to cut unless perhaps you slip a reciprocating saw in there and just re-do everything with some fresh PVC lines & routes.

Is it okay to have the diverter vertical? Since I have to cut the 2 returns, that would alter levels of things to a bad place... If I do vertical, I don't have to worry about that.

Thanks! I'm also thinking about using a union between the filter and the heater since its a threaded connection to the filter and if I have to replace the filter in the future, it may be really difficult to remove. Any concerns with that?

I wouldn't be concerned, but get good quality pool unions.

Is that a Hayward AQR100 System?

I would confirm the cell can be mounted vertically. No mention of vertical mounting is in the manual.

Looks like the same system under different branding.

Nothing says the cell can be mounted vertically.

Do you have a cover on your pool?

A 30K cell is marginal for a 18K pool.

I take the below to indicate that it CAN be mounted vertically :) Am I missing something? I so not have a cover on the pool, no. However, it worked great for me last year at a relatively low setting. I am about 45 minutes North of Chicago, if that makes a difference. It also doesn't get full sun most of the day.

No, I missed that on your diagram. It is interesting it is not on the Aquarite 100 diagram.
