Moved and New Pool Opening

Hi All,
I recently moved from Richmond, VA to Sioux City, Iowa. I know the pool season is much shorter and have a nice pool to learn.
First things first, I opened it this past weekend with success getting the pump primed and everything flowing. There are a few things that I haven't had experience with or know what they are in the attached pic's.
First, this pool/pump arrangement has a natural gas fired heater, anything in particular I should know or consider before starting it up?
Second, there is a spa that sits above pool level and appears to be supplied by the pool pump system. It appears the pool heater is the heat for the spa and think the spa should be valved open from the pool and heater turned on to use it. Never had one and any advice would be appreciated.
Third, any advice on operating the Pentair Intellichlor salt water generator?
Last, the pics show the valve arrangement and most valves are labeled, but the green handle valve to the left is not. Is this a drain or something else? Any ideas before I start testing?
Thanks in advance for any info!
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

Be careful who you are calling Jim, Jim!!! :p

Notice that your salt cell has a low salt light on... this indicates that the cell thinks that there is not enough salt in the pool to operate. The level needs to be about 3400 ppm. It would be best for you to test the salt in the water to ensure the problem is with the salt level actually being low vs. the cell just not reading the correct level.

I am not sure what the green valve is for.. Do you have any water features???

The heater will not work unless you have water flowing through it... To use the Spa, you would want to set the valves to suck water from the spa and return it to the Spa...

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

I would suggest you start considering changing those types of ball valves, they tend to stick and levers break. The green valve might be for a pressure side cleaner.
